First episode is much more Star Trek fan friendly. I really enjoyed seeing a glimpse of the new Voyager and mention of Janeway. Now will the Admiral be on the show? Will DS9 make an appearance? I can only hope. Love the focus on the ships on episode 1.
I've largely been enjoying it, though it's the same old mystery box scenario that Bad Robot alums always follow. Set up a mysterious threat, don't explain why anything has happened, and then spend most of the season unraveling it. Typically, the answer is far less appealing than the setup. But so far, I'm feeling a little better about this season than the last two stinkers.
Having seen the second episode, my only complaint is Michelle Hurd (Raffi). She vastly over-acts and at several times I've barely held back from fast-forwarding through her scenes. I'm sure they'll be important to the overall plot, but she's always so extremely intense, and she's constantly grimacing and shouting, which I find very distracting. I wish the director had told her to tone it down. (There are other nits to pick, but the arrival of an old friend about 2/3rds of the way through the episode more than made up for them.)
Idk. It feels a little like this is the Revenge of the Sith to the Star Wars prequels: The producers saw the strong fan reaction and decided to go out with a lot of fan service to mollify the crowd. Kurtzmann and others can't overcome their innate desire to play with mystery boxes, grimdark scenery, and long-winded political speeches, but I think the old TNG cast will ultimately elevate the material enough for it to have been at least watchable.
The last two episodes have been outstanding. Possible spoilers.
Gates McFadden was the MVP of episode 3 -- she finally after all these years absolutely rocks her dramatic scene. She was never given a scene like that in all TNG.
Worf is just right too. And looking much younger than the rest of the TNG crew despite the grey.
But I think we can all agree Jack is annoying (and why is he mad at Picard anyway? Jack knew more about him then Picard knew about Jack). His history is such a sci-fi trope. And Raffi is still annoying -- but teaming her with Worf and playing the straight man fits her.
After the last two weeks, I say bring on another season. If Picard retires, then have a show with Seven of Nine as the Captain and Worf as her boss. Bring on all the Trek characters from shows past. Make it so.
"The critics" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 These critics say a lot of thing whether or not they are right is another thing. Also a lot of these critics are in the back pocket of the studios and wouldn't dare to write anything negative because it would cause them to loose access.

This time these critics are YouTubers like The Critical Drinker, Nerdrotics, Midnight Edge and even Culture Casino. I don't think they work for the studios.
I was talking about critics in the access media in general not about Picard season 3 .I heard that season 3 is pretty good and when those Youtubers say so it is probably true BUT.... I am not going to watch a show that was produced by a company that took every possibility to dump on life long Trek fans as -ists and -phobes over the past 5 years. And now that they are desperate for viewers and money they made season 3 of Picard to draw in some attention for Star Trek and I 'm not going to facilitate giving Kurtzman and Co. an opportunity to use this temporary surge in viewers to promote HIS version of star Trek(which is what he did).

You're correct. And now they're making "Section 31" and Star Trek will become darker than ever.
This thread reminds me what I heard on the Shuttle Pod show, DS9's Ira Steven Behr said, "Fans in person are so nice and respectful. Then they go online and trash Star Trek all day. No one hates Star Trek more than Star Trek fans." Anyway I think this is a great show if you enjoy cast and crew from all the ST shows discussing with Conner and Dominic from Enterprise. https://www.youtube.com/@shuttlepodshow

A: that's VERY hypocritical coming from the guy who absolutely hated Gene Roddenberry's view of the future and left the TNG writers' room ASAP
B: there you go again, Steve, confusing Kurtzman's dystopian trash with actual Star Trek.
I heard that season 3 is pretty go the ship od and when those Youtubers say so it is probably true
Nothing could be further from the truth.
The reality is STP S3 is just more of the same, but now they added nostalgia to it.
The story is straight up fanfiction.
Imagine if there'd never been a Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and then years later they do a final adventure for Kirk and his crew.
Sounds promising? Yeah, except that none of the original writers are involved, and the plot is like if Doctor Carol Marcus sends an emergency message to a retired Captain Kirk he needs to go to the planet where the Guardian Of Forever resides. Once there, he finds the Guardian is about to explode and after it does, when the smoke clears he sees Gary Mitchell, Khan Noonien Singh, the Gorn Captain, and Nomad the space probe!!!!!!!!!!!! But then, right before they can exact revenge on Captain Kirk he's beamed up at the very last second, and he finds himself on the Enterprise.
NOT the Enterprise-A, NOT the refit Enterprise, but the ORIGINAL USS Enterprise NCC-1701 from the TV series!!!!!!!!!!!! Turns out Scotty got whatever was left of her after that self destruct in Star Trek III: The Search For Spock, and did a complete restauration. Then they set course for Talos IV, where Captain Pike warns him to trust no one, because the evil entity at the center of the galaxy from Star Trek V: The Final Frontier is alive!!!!!!!!!!!! It's using its powers to control the Talosians and they're giving everyone hallucinations, including the head of Starfleet Robert April!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's the type of trashy, pandering story that people are now lying about by claiming it's supposedly "great"

Dominion War!
Here's a strong review: https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/star-trek-picard-season-3-episode-3-review-seventeen-seconds/ Lost of fan service on the show but I didn't realize one of the actors in Ep3 played Picard's fake son in one of the movies.
