But what if Picard IS Trump?
Think about it.
There are a lot of details that can be included, but I'll settle for a rough outline.
Some people claim that Trump turned the wonderful US and federal government that Obama had created, into a cesspool... even before he was sworn into office, really.
But the "Deep State" and such have been around for a long time. FBI misbehavior - including spying on Trump and the Trump campaign - occurred during the Obama administration
On Star Trek, we might find that problems with the Federation/Starfleet in general and with Earth in particular, were developing for a long time. And that Picard's departure from Starfleet was not just from a single out-of-the-blue or out-of-left-field event. Even in the TNG and DS9 series-es, we saw what could be evidence of increasing problems and corruption "back home." For example, in the two-part DS9 episode "Homefront" and "Paradise Lost." Picard has been seeing all of that going on during his lifetime.
Similarly, Trump has been around and involved in business, and somewhat in politics, for a long time too.
So now in Star Trek: Picard, we're going to get Picard rising up to take on the problems back home, etc etc.
Just like Trump.
I await the exploding heads.

This is a case of someone letting their PRECONCEIVED notions of ONE thing direct ALL their thinking. Knixon has been dying to talk about Trump and thinks Picard is his chance: he could NOT be more wrong.
Simply put Picard is NOT about Trump, it is about Man vs Machine. Expounded a bit: Picard is about Organic beings (like humans and the other members of the Federation) and their struggle with how to deal with Sentient, Artificial and Hybrid Lifeforms, in the wake of the introduction of the Borg into Federation space.
The premise so far is that after the attack on Mars by Synths created on Earth, an intergalactic ban was passed on artificial life creation. Picard becomes involved when he discovers that, not withstanding the ban, there exists at least TWO flesh and blood Synths who are connected to Commander Data a friend whose sacrifice "haunts" Picard. In addition to Picard, a super secret cabal of Romulans are also aware of these flesh and blood synths and for some reason are out to find them, rather than alert the entire Federation. The Romulans, in conjunction with others, have embarked on a reclamation project of one of the defunct Borg cubes. A 'graveyard' yet some of it's former Borg occupants show CLEAR signs of being alive and suffering. That's what we know so far from episodes 1 and 2.
More broadly, it is CLEAR the show itself will be about the TREATMENT of these Synths by Organics and knowing Picard from TNG as we do, it is also obvious he will eventually be on the side of restoring FULL individual rights to these Synths, when it is all done. The Romulan angle suggests further intrigue however since they clearly have spies embedded in the Federation.
I have already suggested people view the other European shows on EXACTLY this same topic but if that's too much bother for you, while viewing Ep. 2 pay attention to the conversation between the organics ( mostly human) and the 'Plastic People'. Pay close attention to the banter between F8 ,the Synth that carries out the sabotage, and the humans that "supervise" it.
If doing EVEN that is beyond you, I will explain it all for you. However don't you DARE doubt my statements in future matters...large or small. Clearly the humans ( this is not shown of ANY other organics) have a very condescending attitude towards their Plastic workmates/subordinates on Mars. It is curious though that , on this day F8 sasses back, even though they supposedly "can not be offended" This reminded me of when Data would explain " I can not be offended". F8 CLEARLY was! (Nexus, watch his expressions carefully, they are subtle but they are there) This suggests that UNLIKE Data, at least some of the Mars Plastic People were sentient and likely offended by the humans' mistreatment. (Are you bored yet Knixon? watch TO I say) I am however convinced this is not simply a case of a 'slave revolt'. By that I mean I suspect there are other forces at work here, possible Romulan or Borg but definitely someone else behind the attack on Mars. We shall see.
Didn't the shot of F8 putting the rifle/gun to his own head give us an eerie reminder of something more familiar though?
On another unrelated note, I am gratified that in re-imagining the 24th century, the brains behind Picard have resorted to some of the simplicity Roddenberry used to create his original future. I read once that the pointed sideburns worn by the male actors on TOS was a simple way to signify that they were of a different time. So too in this new Picard, I noticed that Picard's jackets all have a "standing up" lapels clearly another such future beacon. I also like the sparse, clean looks of future dwellings. While at the same time many of the architecture we know and recognize is still available.
Even if I weren't happy with the future depicted I would wait until I had seen a few more episodes and UNDERSTOOD the world that was being presented before expressing any negative opinions But No, Knixon Picard is NOT about Trump at all! When is The Orville season 3 starting?

You and Invidia can argue about whether Picard is really about Trump aka "Scam Man." I had a different point.
Oops, sorry. I meant SCAM MAN.

I was looking forward to this series until I heard about Stewart's little rant on how he hates Trump and Brexit and he's going to let everyone know about using this show. No thanks, Sir Patrick, I've have enough of rabid left identity politics.

And why would Stewart be one of those Brexit-deniers anyway? People who are too young to remember UK before EU might be forgiven (barely) if they fall for the claptrap about how Brexit will lead to economic calamity, even war. But he's old enough to know what it was like before the EU, and it wasn't a disaster. Far from it.

War was (hopefully) over-egging the pudding. Economic calamity - we'll see.
TBH, I was initially fairly on the fence about Brexit until someone pointed out how to tell if it would be a good thing. The trick? Look at its cheerleaders: Johnson, Farage, Rees-Mogg, Trump, most of the billionaire-owned UK press. None of whom give a damn about the population. The government are already using it as an excuse to erode freedom of speech and working conditions.
