Discuss Star Trek: Picard

I remember when members of this board were claiming that this show would never even be filmed, as various angry young men on YouTube had "proof" that it was cancelled...

Thanks for the link. Had no idea Herman did a REMAKE version of Sam's song!!!

I didn't know Herman's Hermits had covered it! That said, I mainly know the song from its appearance in "Witness": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKM0nH6-NnI

But we've also NOT SEEN anything like that happening before in the TREK WORLD.

Have we???

Except for in a DS 9 episode when a woman WHO falls for ODO also ends up having had her MEMORIES ERASED and REPLACED with some kind of a DATA CRYSTAL that contained a different set of memories (while her ORIGINAL MEMORIES were also stored on the DATA CRYSTAL so that they could also be RESTORED back to her again).

But as far as we know, she probably also wasn't a SYNTHETIC being.

thinking

Actually it was just the opposite. The one that fell in love with Odo had been programmed to assume an undercover criminal identity. One the mission was complete, her original police-type memory was restored, and that person - the real, original one - had no romantic interest in Odo. There was no indication that I remember, of the undercover identity and its memories, being preserved. And there was no reason why it would have been.

Meanwhile you should see Dollhouse. It was probably right up your alley.

It ran for 26 episodes, almost double the 15 of Firefly (not counting the movie) and it had Summer Glau for a while too.

She might have been briefed or something. But what I said was correct, the real agent person did not have romantic feelings for Odo.

My point was that your original post had it backwards, she wasn't programmed to forget Odo, or something. Her original personality was the one that DIDN'T love him, and it was RESTORED after the undercover mission. And the undercover personality/memories had not been stored in a crystal or something, but we saw Bashir restore her original personality/memories.

All of the episodes of Dollhouse can be seen on youtube, but if you use a free option, you usually end up getting someone's dvd rip using a program they didn't pay for, so you get just a corner-of-the-screen view which I hate.

Like this:

Or it's available for $1.99 per episode it seems, perhaps cheaper to buy a whole season but I don't see that option right away.

Joss Whedon, creator of groundbreaking cult favorites "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Firefly," returns to television and reunites with fellow "Buffy" alumna Eliza Dushku in DOLLHOUSE. Echo is an "Active," a member of a highly illegal and underground group of individuals who have had their personalities wiped clean so they can be imprinted with any number of new personas. Hired by the wealthy, powerful and connected, the Actives don't just perform their hired roles; they wholly become -- with mind, personality and physiology -- whomever the client wants or needs them to be. Whether imprinted to be a lover, an assassin, a corporate negotiator or a best friend, the Actives know no other life than the specific engagements they are in at that time. In the series premiere episode, Echo is hired by a businessman to be the ultimate kidnapping negotiator when his young daughter is abducted. Meanwhile, FBI Agent Paul Ballard risks his career in his search for the elusive Dollhouse.

I think remembering romantic feelings - basically it was a different life - and actually still having them, are different things. I said the actual police person didn't HAVE romantic feelings for Odo, not that she couldn't REMEMBER the OTHER PERSONALITY having them.

Similar things happened with Dax a lot, although they muddied it up quite a bit over time.

You either haven't seen all of DS9, or you don't remember a lot of it.

I'm not saying that Jadzia was ever mind wiped. But there were a few episodes where she encountered people from Curzon's (especially) past, and she had "MEMORIES" of them, which came from the symbiont, but they weren't HER memories because SHE had never even MET THEM before. Let alone been married to them, or had sex with them...

And indeed, we're shown/told that Joined Trills who took up again with past relations, were expelled from Trill society and "sentenced to death" in that the symbiont would not be transferred to a later host again when the current one ages/dies.

You want to think the cop had romantic feelings for Odo, still. I say she was just remembering the feelings of the other personality. Call it empathy if you want, I just don't think it's the same thing.

So, you've never heard of empathy? Or you just don't understand it, and/or have never experienced it yourself?

When you see a movie where one of the characters is sad about messing up their relationship with another character, for example; assuming you can understand the first character's feelings and sympathize/empathize with them - maybe even to the point of tearing up or actually crying - do you then conclude that you must also love the second character, yourself? You're unable to see that you're just seeing/empathizing with the first character?

No, I just don't think remembering what amounts to someone else's feelings, is the same as having them yourself.

And the writers of that music can expect a lawsuit from the band Massive Attack for using the song Teardrops.

My example before, of sympathizing/empathizing with a tv show or movie character, evidently went right past you.

Things Kurtzman stole from other sources and the legal issues with comparisons.

Well, I have seen Ep 6, and it was good. Probably my favourite show at the moment.

Also showed Ep 1 to Bonus daughter #1. Definitely no birds freezing there.

One has actually seen season 1&2 of STD twice! So the guy of the game has some points not to mention the fact that it "pays hommage" (steals) other stuff from other shows literally. And one had heard the Bryan Fuller synopsis for a Picard show more than a year ago and a lot of core elements returned in STP plus from the clips one has seen one also notices similarities with Logan,Blade Runner,re BSG and Firefly/Serenity .Let's not forget it is not the first time that Kurtzman would do this since he had to settle some court case for the script of The Island which besides is a blatant rip off of Logan's Run ,Coma and is alo a copy of a French SF story from 1979 that is very much the same as The Island for which they had to pay a 7 figure sum But hey I guess he must have learned from that and not blatantly copy other people's material 😏
