As the great gods of YouTube rage have decided that this show is doomed to fail due to its platform, I thought this would be a good place to link to this piece in "The Guardian": https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2019/jun/27/streaming-tv-is-about-to-get-very-expensive-heres-why
The author echoes many of the thoughts of TMDb members about the increasing cost of streaming. I can't see "NBC Universe" making it to the UK as, like CBS, there is no brand recognition. Apple and Disney will presumably be global launches though. I still think the UK has it relatively good in terms of "needed subs" compared to the US as, until Apple and Disney launch, you really only "need" cable/satellite + Netflix + Amazon unless you're after Asian/specialist/adult content. That said, there's still no legal way to watch a lot of US shows in the UK.

I agree. It seems like everything now is geared towards cheap, easy and fast for the masses. Most peole are satisfied with this, even if it means lower quality.
Now you still have a range of choices between high and low quality, but I won't be surprised if in the future, due to cost savings and low demand, there will only be the option of the lower quality offered.

@Invidia: Looks like mobile data is one of the few areas where the UK isn't being totally ripped off. Unlimited 4G £25/month. 5G has yet to fully launch (a few major cities only). Hard to gauge how much phone rental is, as it's usually factored into the cost of the "line" rental. I generally buy a phone and they tend to last 3 years or more before I replace them (I'd still be happily using my Nokia/MS 640XL if Microsoft were supporting their mobile OS). Nokia 7 Plus cost £200, which is less than £10/month on top of the mobile service - it would be hard to get an equivalent handset for that. (All including tax). Obviously, if you want the latest and greatest or the "cool" brand name then you have to pay. The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus is around £900.
As for what "young people" can afford, most seem to pay more for their phones, clothes, holidays and cars than I can afford...

Which why nowadays there are a lot of youths owing debts of several thousands of Euros/Pounds before they are 20
Congrats to the UK becoming fourth in the World Cup

Doesn't anyone think the new poster for the Picard show looks like an old poster for an old post apocalyptic SF cult movie called "A Boy And His Dog" featuring a very young Don Johnson ?

The only period that the moon was that close to Earth was billions of years ago the moon is actually drifting away from us

Scientist think that because of tidal floods evolution became possible because the floods ensured the mixing of chemical compounds to form life also those tidal waves forced organisms to adapt and that is why we get variations in species.

You mean they should have let us Dutch win the final?,that would be nice but wouldn't that make that victory rather hollow since the real best team didn't win ?

But isn't that at the heart of the American culture one has to win,the winner only matters ,it is almost obligatory to be the first or the best.

We don't own the Chinese anything our debt to GDP ratio is even lower than that of the Chinese ours is around 50-51% ,China's is around 52%,,the US 108%,Japan has the highest with around 235% followed by Greece around 182%,also one has to take into account that the Netherlands 50-51% debt would actually be far lower if it hadn't agreed to vouch for a loan of several billions of Euros to support the Economies of Greece,Portugal,Spain ,Italy (all who have debt to GDP ratios of 100 or more%) and various other EU members during the Euro crisis.
The trade war with China is actually hurting the US a lot more than the Chinese besides if the Chinese would loose the US market it would be 4 % of the world's consumers if the US looses China on the other hand it looses 18% of the World's consumers.
And don't forget apart from the Chinese the US also has large debts to countries like Saudi Arabia (part of the reasons why the US wanted to get rid of Saddam Hussein was that Hussein(together with Khadaffi )wanted to get rid of the US dollar(because of the instability of that currency) as the currency to pay for oil he wanted the Euro, pound or other more stable currency. But since the US makes a lot of money out the the exchange rate on selling dollars the US got very worried because that would be a disaster for the US economy.

Well it seems that Trump wants to go further than most of these military hawks over the past year they had to warn him on several occasions that he risked causing major incidents where the US neither has enough troops of funds to get involved military

Alone in a V'draysh escape pod, a man named Craft spends his time watching Betty Boop cartoons as he drifts. Suddenly, he is caught in a tractor beam. It is from the USS Discovery.
Wonder if Betty Boop cartoons would have survived ,plus wouldn't they be considered extreme sexist?
So maybe Robert Picard is also a HIPPIE type or is also like the QUAKERS and AMISH who also REJECT having or using MODERN TECHNOLOGY???
No Robert represents the French village folks who are steeped in traditions and are very reluctant when new things are introduced that conflicts with those traditions.(I have been to France and stayed at a village where everything is quite different from the big cities, where life is more laid back less rushed and far more traditional)

That is assuming Control in the future still exists wasn't the whole point of DISC going to the future was to prevent Control from obtaining the knowledge from the orb so Control cannot become this dominant force in the future. And if the future would have such an all powerful and lethal enemy to the Federation and life in the galaxy in general that despite the Temporal Prime Directive Daniels would have warned Archer from this impending doom from the future

Americans should get rid of this whole sex is sinful dirty and nasty notion in most western European countries we have this very open minded attitude towards sex and sex is a topic that people talk about openly about and I think because of that we have less problems and less teenage pregnancies, abortions etc .American restrict themselves too much because of religious dogmas, why on Earth would you let some TV priest tell you that sex is a mortal sin while he is making millions over the backs of the underprivileged and poor by telling them fairy tales, talking about moral hypocrisy
