Just like Legion, this series stands apart in its own timeline. Thought people might want to know that:

Timeline. They said it's in one of the "streams" created by Days of Future Past.

I don't know. But the people behind the show say the program is not part of the cinematic timeline.

Will & Grace is also part of the Xmen universe, just a differant stream.

There were 3 actual X-Men in the premiere alone so it is in an X-Men universe: Blink, Thunderbird/Warpath, and Polaris. Two of them were characters in Days of Future Past. Also, Stan Lee made a cameo (he only did that in a Marvel TV series so far in Agents of Shield). There's nothing that makes this more official then that.

They said "The Xmen are gone"........so at one time the Xmen were in this stream?

Yes. It's supposed to be the major mystery of the series.

It will be interesting where this goes. Maybe connected in the same stream as legion. We still dont know the exact time period of legion but would be cool. Would tie in mutants helping sentinel services.
I did like how its not huge robots, cool adaptation. Altho, if its a stream of dofp, wouldnt the government have learned not to use metal since that greatly backfired last time?

Showrunners said The Gifted has noting to do with Legion.
The TV shows are not connected to the movies. They may have some of the characters from the movies, but they are different versions of these characters. Sort of like how the Arrowverse has nothing to do with the DCEU.

I don't know how different Blink is from Days of Future Past (other than Actress), she's still Asian. In the comics, Blink is not Asian. Also they've been keeping other aspects of her look very similar to Days of Future Past. Same hair colors, same scars, same green eyes, etc. So there is an effort to at least keep the show somewhat similar to the movies. The Arrowverse is very very different from the movies. Also they've been advertising the show as being in the X-Men universe, so there's that. I'm going with same cinematic universe but in a split off timestream.

Id like to think you are right. Im just curious in how the went with this design for these sentinels instead of 90s cartoon and dofp. I want to see more of the sentinel agency. I dont care too much about the mystery of where brotherhood and xmen went. At some point spoiler alert we see what happens in logan.... how far apart are dofp and logan again? What year is gifted again? Have they said?

Not so distant future. So near present day. After the current X-Men movies and long before Logan. Probably around the time of Deadpool or past it somewhat. I wondered why the mansion was so empty in Deadpool.
As for the sentinels, its likely because of the events of dofp and Apocalypse still occurred in this universe. So the Sentinel Program returned but in a scaled back form, or in the midst of starting up again to full form.

Oh yea, i forgot about mutants almost destroying the world in Apocalypse. Would be cause for a reboot of sentinel services...
