In Season 1, priest has a sexual affair with a woman. In Season 2, defrocked Father Marcus now has to be shown kissing a man, repeatedly. Both are supposed to be exorcists. Neither of these subplots are needed to tell the exorcism stories. It's just done to attack the priesthood as an institution.
William Peter Blatty is rolling over in his grave.
