When Boone wanted to tell his sister Shannon about the hatch, Locke bashed him in the back of his head with the butt end of his knife hard enough to knock him out and leave a nasty wound on his head. Locke told him he did it for his own good, and that Boone would thank him for it later. He left Boone tied up and left the knife out of his reach, telling him he could cut himself free once he had the proper motivation.

Locke at this point of the story is a pretty weird dude. In fact he remains a pretty weird dude, though he is also a reliable person in some regards.

Still, if I were Boone, I would have bashed that lying, bald headed, bastard in the head after I got free. I would have surprised him and laid him out. He would have woken up hog tied and hurting. Damned if he wouldn't. Nobody is going to hit me on the head like that and not pay for it. Locke would have plenty of knots on his head to learn his lesson.

Not only that, but sister or not, I would have to get down with Maggie Grace.
