An investigation into the murder of the wife of a televangelist leads to the discovery of a seedy relationship he had with a hustler that may have contributed to the crime. Meanwhile, Goren runs into his brother while visiting his ailing mother.

Still on leave from the force, approached in a bar after a confrontation, and pondering his future, Goren meets another officer on suspension (Winters) who makes him an interesting job offer. Goren decides to tip the balance in his favor with an undercover operation.
