Discuter de AfterMASH

The lack of it drove the original series into a very big hate mail campaign ( see my postings on that show). And it doomed this show into a short life. If this show had admitted NK had started the war anti-attitudes towards it may have been tamer.

  1. It was a sitcom--with the intent to entertain. It was not a documentary--with the intent to inform/educate.
  2. Funny/entertaining usually are the two main ingredients that keep a sitcom on the air. Thinking that if it had been either of those, NOT mentioning a “100-year-old” war wouldn’t have tanked it.
  3. No substantive comment on the "big hate mail campaign". But, will say that every show has its distractors regardless of what's included/excluded.

ON ANOTHER NOTE: (Please do not take this the wrong way--just curious). Are you posting your comments using a translation program?

For starters. You are all wrong. The Mash TV saga was not primarily for entertainment. It was to be against the US in wars in Asia. Sometimes the original series had documentary like eps ( like the ep about the MASH Olympics)with real life war footage and/or footage of other stuff in the actual 1950s. It was part documentary at slight times. Contrary to what you said.

Also, of CBS being inundated with hate mail. They were indeed when they had Smothers Brothers on making anti-US comments on their variety program. Eventually it lead to the cancellation of that show. The press admitted that hate campaign. Why would CBS not have been totally thrilled with a ratings magnet like the MASH saga if there was not a lot of hate addressed to the network over this? Also, do you really actually think that millions of Americans with great patriotism did not get furious at the ultimate leftist trash?

What in blazes does that translation crap mean!?! Do not answer I am disinterested.

The series was considered guilty (by viewers) in earlier eps of giving out some fake info to the public. In a couple of later eps they substantiated with writing during the ep itself that the info they gave was true.

Another thing. In one ep a decent man comes to the 4077th and chastises Hawk and BJ for not respecting the American flag. This obviously was due to network pressure by those who were in turn pressured by the viewing public. Alda was very, very unlikely to be having guilt pangs for his unfair treatment of the US in Korea.

And that is another point. As I said earlier. The Mash saga stayed clear of the very excusing truth of the US and Allies in Korea fighting the invading North Koreans. Your posting reply was totally wrong.

In an obvious move to deliberately kill the show CBS put After Mash on against the far more successful ( and ironically right-wing) series The A-Team. The CBS execs saw the A-Team was the show that finally hurt and destroyed the long running megahit Happy Days the previous season. Predictably, After Mash got clobbered and killed by the A-Team as well.

(It seems as if the CBS Network did not ever desire After Mash. It was seemingly the brain child of three Mash actors and original series creator Larry Gelbart.)
