This story, told by stand-up comedienne and writer Sophie Duker, is about the fearless advocacy of pioneer and “health care hottie” Joycelyn Elders. From humble beginnings in rural Arkansas, Joycelyn overcame countless obstacles to become a true beacon of change in the medical field. Her relentless pursuit to address and implement sexual education, reproductive health and drug abuse prevention policies propelled her through various roles as a nurse, educator, and ultimately, the first African American to serve as Surgeon General of the United States.
