Frank Garner vows to help Victoria uncover any hidden information about her past. Meanwhile, Sam is alarmed to hear that Bill Malloy's ghost has been seen by Victoria.

By chance, Victoria sees Burke's distinctive fountain pen and recognises it as identical to the one she found on the beach. Now believing that Burke murdered Malloy, she is terrified and telephones Roger.

Mrs Johnson begins working at Collinwood, quickly beginning her covert investigations. She is disturbed to hear a mysterious sobbing sound coming from a locked room in the basement.

Mrs Johnson begins to believe that Collinwood is haunted and confides her fears to Burke. Meanwhile, the takeover plans for the cannery are abruptly ended when the company executives reject Burke's offer.

Victoria tells Burke about her suspicions regarding Roger and the pen she found on Lookout Point. Meanwhile, Carolyn reveals to Roger that Victoria knows about the pen's origins.

Roger is held in custody as Sheriff Patterson questions Victoria. Roger gives his alibi for the accident, which seems to prove his innocence. Carolyn is shocked to learn that Roger may have killed Malloy.

Attentions turn to Sam as the hunt for the mysterious driver continues. Outside the Old House searching for David, Victoria narrowly escapes death when Matthew pushes a stone urn from the roof.

Scared from her close call, Victoria unwittingly runs to Matthew's cottage for help. As they talk, she realises that he was the driver. Matthew refuses to let Victoria leave.

Matthew reveals that he killed Malloy, but that it was an accident, and vows to kill Victoria to maintain his secret. The police are called to search for Victoria, while Elizabeth pays a crucial visit on Matthew.

A shamed Matthew confesses the murder to a stunned Elizabeth, before fleeing. The police hunt for Matthew, who has hidden at the Old House. Victoria makes peace with Roger, apologising for her accusation.

Victoria visits Burke and reluctantly tells him that her loyalties lie with the Collins family. Burke steps up his plans to undermine the Collins business interests. Meanwhile, David steals provisions for Matthew.

As Matthew holds Victoria captive, the Collins household thinks that she left for her trip as planned. Elizabeth worries when Frank calls her to say that Victoria has not arrived. Victoria makes a bid to escape.

Elizabeth worries about Victoria's safety. Joe learns the truth about Carolyn and Burke's relationship and the two men come to blows. The discovery of Victoria's luggage proves that she never left for her trip.

Victoria's disappearance becomes a police matter. When Joe and Burke search for Victoria at the Old House, Matthew and his prisoner hide in a secret room. Victoria manages to call for help, but to no avail.

David begins to realise that Matthew has kidnapped Victoria. Meanwhile, Matthew's paranoia escalates as he is confronted by ghostly sobbing and an eerie light coming from the portrait of Josette.

The ghost of Bill Malloy appears to David and tells him to help Victoria, before threatening Matthew with a vow of revenge. A terrified Matthew is now resolved to kill Victoria.

Roger and Burke find and rescue Victoria from the Old House. The ghosts of Bill Malloy and Josette lead a procession of spirits to wreak revenge on Matthew, scaring him to death.

After Matthew's screams of terror, Burke and Roger break into the old house rescuing Victoria. They find Matthew dead from fright. Elizabeth, calls the Sheriff. Victoria comes home and states that the ghost of Josette Collins saved her. Roger thinks she is traumatized and imagined the ghost. Roger takes Sheriff Patterson to the Old House. Elizabeth orders Burke not to hurt Carolyn or Victoria, whom she suspects he is attracted to. Burke visits Victoria in her room and she thanks him. Burke tells her to flee Collinwood; she believes she's safe now that Matthew's dead. Roger comes home and tells the news that there will probably be no inquest. Matthew died of a heart attack most likely brought about by a big fright. Victoria feels Josette watched over her the whole time and she believes she resembles Josette. She thinks Josette is one of her ancestors. Meanwhile, Josette's ghost appears outside the Old House and dances around the columns.

Elizabeth learns of Laura's return and decides that she must not see David. Meanwhile, Sam finds himself compelled to paint a disturbing picture of a woman burning amidst flames.

David learns the news that his mother has returned to Collinwood. Clearly disturbed by this revelation, he confides to Victoria that he senses Laura's presence watching over him.

A frosty meeting between Roger and Laura takes place when she visits Collinwood. David is apprehensive about meeting his mother, following his dreams. When the pair meet, he runs away terrified.

Roger demands that Laura tell him what Burke wanted from her. David does not want to meet Laura. When she encounters him by chance at Widows' Hill, he is terrified and almost steps over the edge.

David shows Laura a picture he has drawn of the phoenix and shows her the Old House. Meanwhile, Laura begins to reveal a darker motivation behind her return and her plans to take David far away.

Sam is alarmed to learn of the influence his painting has had on David, but finds himself unable to stop working on a second, identical painting. Lieutenant Riley investigates the fire at Laura's apartment.

Victoria looks through the Collins family album and is intrigued when she realises that its illustration of Josette features an identical locket to the one Laura wears. Riley's continues to search for answers.

Laura asks for Burke's help to reclaim David. Burke warms to her proposal, but in return asks for her to help clear him of his manslaughter conviction. David refuses to left Roger take the painting away.

Victoria and Frank continue to be concerned by Laura's influence on David and agree that, despite Burke's advice, that the boy should be kept away from her at all costs.

The ghost of Josette materialises in David's room and magically completes David's painting, so that it now depicts him and his mother surrounded by a wall of flames.

Lieutenant Riley continues to investigate Laura. Meanwhile, Victoria is compelled to take her and Frank to a mysterious building located on the edge of a cemetery.

With the help of the caretaker, Victoria and Frank discover that the remains of Laura Murdock Stockbridge are buried in the crypt. Victoria falls into a psychic trance.

Elizabeth demands that Laura leaves Collinwood. Laura stares into the flames of the cottage fireplace and uses her supernatural powers to make Elizabeth fall unconscious.

Elizabeth regains consciousness, but has no memory of how she fell unconscious. Later, she is visited by a cloaked figure and reacts in terror, talking incoherently about fire.

Investigating the crypt at the Eagle Hill Cemetery, Victoria and Frank are intrigued to discover that the remains of two of Laura's ancestors are buried there, both of whom died of fire 100 years apart.

David tells Guthrie about the legend of Josette and that her ghost haunts Collinwood. David is horrified to see the portrait of Josette change into the painting of him and Laura in the flames.

Dr. Guthrie visits Sam and questions him about how he felt when he was painting Laura. Victoria discovers that Elizabeth's illness came just after a visit from Laura.

David goes to the cottage to spend the night with his mother. Later during the night, the ghost of Josette appears to both David and Laura, leaving her frightened.

Laura makes plans to take David away before Elizabeth recovers from her illness. Victoria is shocked at Dr. Guthrie's suggestion to hold a séance at Collinwood.

Roger decides to take steps to move his divorce plans forward. Meanwhile, Dr Guthrie comes to the conclusion that there are forces acting at Collinwood beyond anyone's understanding.

Victoria is unable to understand Josette's warming, but Guthrie succeeds in translating it. Later on, Laura appears in Victoria's room and warns her to stop interfering.

The police are forced to close the case of the corpse found in Phoenix, but are shocked to discover that the remains have vanished from their casket in the mortuary.

Guthrie questions Laura at length about the missing body. Later, Laura gazes into the flames of her fireplace intently, causing Guthrie to collapse to the floor.

The elderly caretaker intervenes before the coffin can be opened, demanding that Guthrie's party leaves. However, a supernatural force makes the lid open itself, revealing the casket to be empty.

Joe, Frank and Guthrie are shocked by the discovery and are confused when they discover that the records for the burial are faded beyond recognition. Later, Laura appears to the caretaker.

David sees a strange vision of himself in the flames of the fireplace. Meanwhile, Joe's research uncovers an old newspaper page which tells of a boy called David who died by fire.

David tells Victoria that he wants to leave Collinwood to live with his mother. Meanwhile, supernatural forces, bring the newspaper clipping to Roger's attention.

Guthrie continues to investigate Collinwood for clues. When Laura refuses to extinguish her fireplace, Guthrie realises that she is one of the undead, who gains her power from the flames.

Despite Guthrie's absence, the séance is conducted as planned. This time, it is David who falls into a trance. Speaking as David Radcliff, he speaks of a terrifying ordeal with his mother in the flames.

Victoria, Burke and Joe try to find a strategy to defeat Laura. Mrs Johnson is enlisted to guard David until the danger is over. However, a telephone call provides an ideal diversion for him to slip away.

Laura meets David at an abandoned fishing shack and tells him that they will leave soon. As a fire starts to engulf the building, Laura begins to beckon David into the flames.

Now that Laura is "dead", Elizabeth awakens from her coma and immediately wants to return to Collinwood. Victoria talks to David about his experience, but the only thing he remembers is the fishing shack. Victoria tells him that his mother had to leave town without him. After David leaves, Burke comes into the drawing room with Vickie and shows her Laura's locket, which he found in the ashes of the shack.

Sam receives an offer of professional exhibition of his paintings, but needs to regain some of his earlier works which are now owned by Roger. A stranger makes an appearance at the Blue Whale.

Elizabeth returns to Collinwood and is frantic to regain the key to the locked room in the mansion's basement. Victoria later sees Elizabeth leave the mysterious room.

Maggie releases that the paintings were sold to Roger as a cover for a bribe. Elizabeth stops Roger from gaining access to the locked room in the basement.

Jason McGuire meets with his friend Willie Loomis at the Blue Whale. A broken Sam admits to Burke the truth of his involvement in providing Roger with an alibi for the car accident.

Burke and Sam confront Roger, who finally breaks down and confesses he was responsible for killing the man who Burke went to prison for. Jason makes another attempt to get into the locked room in the basement, but David catches him. Victoria and Carolyn start to suspect Jason and think he must have some kind of hold over Elizabeth. Jason tries to get into the locked room again, but Elizabeth catches him. She tells him to leave Collinwood immediately, but Jason points out to her that she killed Paul Stoddard 18 years ago and he helped her bury him.

Roger is forced to confess that it was him that drove the car that killed a man 10 years earlier, not Burke. Elizabeth is distraught to learn the truth and Roger is left devastated.

Carolyn is appalled by Willie's advances and uses a gun to scare him off. Both she and Victoria are disturbed by his antisocial behaviour and propensity for violence.

Willie becomes intrigued by the portrait of Barnabas Collins that hangs in the Collinwood foyer and the jewellery it depicts. Carolyn pressures Elizabeth for answers on the new arrivals.

Burke offers his support to Elizabeth if she needs help to combat the hold Jason has over her. However, though obviously distressed, Elizabeth refuses to acknowledge that she is being blackmailed.

Willie continues to be fascinated by the portrait of Barnabas and decides to do some research. After he learns that the Collins family were buried with their jewels, he begins to form a plan.

Willie visits the Eagle Hill cemetery and encounters the elderly caretaker, and claims to be a Collins family relative. Entering the family crypt, he is terrified to hear a mysterious heartbeat.

Elizabeth is disturbed by Willie's disappearence. While she did want him to leave, he did not take any of his belongings or the money Elizabeth offered him with him. Jason, looking for Willie, finds out from the caretaker that Willie had broken into the Collins Mausoleum the night before. At Collinwood, Mrs. Johnson opens the door and finds a man who asks for Elizabeth. Mrs. Johnson goes to tell Elizabeth, but first asks the man's name. He tells her his name is Barnabas Collins - the name of the man in the portrait that is hanging in the foyer at that moment.

Barnabas tells Elizabeth that he is from England, and is the only surviving member of the English branch. When asked, he tells her that he is thinking of possibly settling down in Collinsport. Barnabas visits the Old Hous and finds David Collins playing there. After David leaves the Old House, Barnabas begins to talk to the portrait of Josette Collins.

Jason tries to get more money out of Elizabeth, which upsets her because she still does not know whether Willie Loomis has left town. At the Blue Whale, Burke tells Carolyn that he is sorry for using her to hurt her family. Carolyn thinks that Jason is holding something against her mother. Jason warns Carolyn that if she doesn't stop asking questions her mother will get into trouble.

Jason drags Willie back to Collinwood to apologize and then leave. Willie passes out after looking at the portrait of Barnabas. Jason convinces Elizabeth that Willie is sick and let him stay at Collinwood until he is better. Jason discovers a wound on Willie's wrist.

Carolyn and Victoria are confused by Willie's recent illness and behavior. Carolyn tries to find out what trouble her mother is in. Willie attempts to leave, but Jason stops him. After dark Willie hears the sound of a heartbeat and knows that something is calling him. Jason sees Willie sneak out of the house and follows him to the graveyard. Willie enters the secret room in the Collins Mausoleum, and Jason is unable to find him.

Willie, weak after being out all night, returns to Collinwood. Jason believes Willie has been out grave robbing. Roger attempts to kick out Willie but is too weak to go. The sheriff tells Roger that animals are being "drained" of blood. Dr. Woodard finds that Willie is suffering from a massive loss of blood.

Barnabas visits the coffee shop and talks with Maggie. Barnabas leaves his cane behind. Joe arrives to pickup Maggie and she notices the cane, they decide to return it to Barnabas. Willie asks Barnabas what his plans are for Maggie, he knows that Barnabas has "plans" for her. Later Maggie feels as if someone is watching her.

Victoria tells Elizabeth that Willie is now working for Barnabas. Elizabeth goes to the Old House to speak to Barnabas and David follows her (against her wishes). David is disturbed by all the changes that have been made to the Old House. Burke asks Elizabeth has sold some land to raise cash, he suspects that Jason McGuire has something to do with it. David goes back to the Old House and is locked in, with the sound of howling dogs outside.

Maggie is disturbed by the dream she had; Joe takes her to the Blue Whale. Later Sam and Barnabas show up, Maggie tries to avoid Barnabas. Burke shows up and meets Barnabas. When Maggie leaves Barnabas wishes her "sweet dreams". After Maggie goes to sleep Barnabas creeps into her room.

Jason manages to get Elizabeth to give him a job at the Collins cannery. As a result everyone wonders what hold Jason has over Elizabeth. Carolyn finds out that Paul Stoddard's belongings are stored in the locked room in the basement and becomes determined to find the key.

Following Maggie's disappearance everyone searches for her. Willie finds out from Victoria that Maggie has disappeared; Later Willie (anonymously) tells Victoria that Maggie can be found at the graveyard on Eagle Hill. Maggie meets Barnabas, however he and Willie are forced to leave her behind when Burke and Victoria arrive and find Maggie. Barnabas and Willie hide in the secret room in the Collins Mausoleum. Barnabas beats Willie for betraying him. After getting Maggie home everyone discovers the fang marks on her neck.

Maggie appears to be feeling better, but then her mood changes and demands that Joe leave. Joe gets Victoria to watch over Maggie. Jason questions Willie about Maggie's disappearance. Willie warns Jason to stop asking questions for his own good. Victoria watches over Maggie, then the lighting flashes and in the doorway there is a figure of a man.

Barnabas beats Willie and accuses him of tipping off Victoria that Maggie could be found at Eagle Hill Cemetery. Barnabas also warns Willie to get Jason McGuire to stop asking questions. Dr. Woodard examines Maggie again and is still puzzled by her illness. Victoria watches over Maggie. Sam works on Barnabas' portrait and Barnabas steps out for some night air. Maggie becomes agitated and wants Victoria to leave. Victoria goes to call for help, the door slams behind her and the sound of vicious dogs can be heard.

Maggie is found unconscious and the wounds on her neck have been re-opened. Dr. Woodard moves Maggie to the hospital. The nurse watches over Maggie as she sleeps, Maggie appears to get worse, the nurse examines her then goes to get the doctor. When they both return Maggie is gone and the window is wide open. The nurse tells Dr. Woodard that there was every indication that Maggie was dead.

Maggie is missing, Dr. Woodard thinks she may be dead. Burke and Joe go to the Old House to question Willie, however he is not there and Barnabas vouches for his whereabouts. After they leave Maggie comes out of an adjoining room. Barnabas gives Maggie Josette's music box and tells her she will be Josette.

Barnabas dines with Maggie(aka Josette). Sam goes to the Old House to tell Barnabas that he cannot work on the portrait while his daughter is missing. Maggie overhears her father and Joe downstairs, she cries out and attempts to get away.

David sneaks down to the Old House to search for Josette, Barnabas catches and tells him that he should not trespass. Roger tells Barnabas that Dr. Woodard has some blood samples from Maggie that might be of some help finding her. David sneaks back to Old House and sees Maggie(but thinks she is Josette).

Dr. Woodard is puzzled by what he finds in samples of Maggie's blood. Roger suspects Elizabeth is paying money to Jason because he has something on her. Elizabeth tells Jason she cannot give him any more money as it is starting to attract attention; Jason agrees. Someone breaks into Dr. Woodard's office and steals the samples of Maggie's blood.

Dr. Woodard wants to get a sample of Willie's blood as his symptoms resembled those of Maggie. Jason starts to become suspicious of Barnabas Collins. Jason tells Elizabeth that she should marry him.

Elizabeth starts divorce proceeding against Paul Stoddard so she can marry Jason. Carolyn becomes determined to get into the locked room in the basement to see what Jason has on her mother. Elizabeth will not give Carolyn the key, but Jason agrees to help her get it.

Barnabas finds Maggie and punishes her for escaping by putting her in his coffin. The sheriff searches for Maggie however they start to believe that Sam must have only seen her in his imagination. Willie let Maggie out of the coffin and locks her in Josette's room.

Willie makes an impassioned plea for Maggie's life which placates Barnabas. Locking Maggie in a basement cell, Barnabas vows that she will become Josette, regardless of her attempts to resist.

Barnabas learns from Sam that the police now think Maggie to be dead and takes glee in revealing this news to his rebellious prisoner. Maggie is puzzled to later see a little girl playing outside her cell.

Sarah tells Maggie a cryptic riddle which offers her an escape route. Uncovering a secret passage in her cell, Maggie disappears into the darkness, stalked by a malevolent Barnabas.

Maggie manages to escape to the beach and is discovered by Sam. Woodard remains concerned for Maggie's safety and decides to announce her death, while she is sent away for treatment.

Sam and Joe struggle with their consciences, but ultimately decide that they cannot risk Maggie's safety by confiding in Victoria. Carolyn continues to victimise Elizabeth.

Elizabeth is tormented by dreams of the three widows and seems troubled and preoccupied as the wedding approaches. Later, Mrs Johnson prevents her from jumping from Widows' Hill.

Now determined to commit suicide, Elizabeth says her goodbyes to David and Carolyn and prepares to jump from Widows' Hill, haunted by the wails of its ghosts.

Jason demands that Willie gives him access to Barnabas' valuables, in spite of Willie's protestations that he is in danger. Convinced that the jewels are hidden in Barnabas' coffin, Jason opens it and is strangled.

Jason's body lays dead in the floor in the Old House's basement. Willie comes down and sees the body. As he grieves for Jason, Barnabas asks him why. Willie tells him that even though Jason threatened to kill him, the two of them were always friends. Barnabas and Willie carry Jason out of the house and take him to the secret room in the mausoleum. Though Barnabas hates to dishonor his family with McGuire's presence, he and Willie bury him under the concrete floor. Meanwhile, Maggie is able to remember Sarah from a sketch that he father made. Later, Sarah appears at the mausoleum.

While the residents of Collinwood enjoy Barnabas' hospitality at the party, Elizabeth senses a ghostly presence. An indulgent Roger begins a séance, sending Victoria into a psychic trance.

Burke is unimpressed by the music box and Victoria's growing interest in the life of Josette. Later, they almost encounter Julia and Maggie, as they visit the cemetery in an attempt to restore her memory.

As she sleeps in Josette's room, Victoria is awakened by Sarah's singing. Barnabas begs Willie to prevent him from attacking Victoria and is shocked at the discovery of Sarah's ball.

Julia continues her investigations at Collinwood, asking David for information about Sarah. Later, she visits the Old House and meets Barnabas and is shocked to discover that he casts no reflection.

As Julia revels in her work to maintain Barnabas' secrets, he remains unconvinced that her hypnotism of Maggie will remain successful. Now desperate, he renews his plans to kill Maggie.

Burke asks Elizabeth if he can purchase the house on the seafront for Victoria. Victoria succeeds in helping Maggie regain some of her memories, but Julia is able to renew the hypnosis.

Julia urges Barnabas not to pursue his relationship with Victoria further, warning that it will cause trouble. Barnabas overhears a conversation between Burke and Victoria and is upset by their intimacy.

Victoria is haunted by the sensation that someone entered her room while she was sleeping. Barnabas is worried to learn the news that Burke has proposed to Victoria.

Julia is convinced that she must make contact with Sarah, and goes on an expedition with David. Meanwhile, Burke demands that Barnabas stays away from Victoria.

Carolyn is in the drawing room, and is looking out the window. David enters. They talk, and he gasps. He says he saw an old man standing outside the window. Elizabeth enters. David tells Elizabeth what he saw, and leaves. Elizabeth talks to Carolyn, and tells Carolyn that she thinks David is mentally disturbed and she has no choice but to send him away. David is listening in. At the Old House, Barnabas enters the house and finds Julia waiting. Julia asks Barnabas if he bit someone, and he says no. Julia says Barnabas can bite her. Barnabas declines because he may need Julia later. At Collinwood, David and Carolyn talk. David says he knows aunt Elizabeth thinks he's crazy. He tells Carolyn that he made everything up, and makes Carolyn promise she will not go to the Old House. David leaves and Carolyn decides to go to the Old House. She enters the house, and goes to the basement. She is shocked to find a coffin. Julia finds her, and tells her to leave before it is too late. Barnabas find

Carolyn once again looks at the portrait of Barnabas. Vickie goes to her and asks her if she wants to see a movie with her. Carolyn says she can't, but suggests Vickie go to the Old House to talk with cousin Barnabas to talk about the restoration of the West Wing. Vickie says she doesn't want to impose on Barnabas. Carolyn encourages her to go, and Vickie says she might go later. Julia enters the house, coming back from town. Vickie tells Carolyn & Julia about a dream she had about going with Julia to a very old house. Vickie leaves to go check on David. Carolyn says it's a strange conicendence that Vickie had a dream like that. Julia feels that Carolyn suspects her of something. On the terrace, Carolyn watchs the sun sets. She thinks she hears Barnabas calling for her, but it is just Joe Haskell. She tells him that she no longer believes the things David has been saying. Carolyn says she is going to go for a walk and Joe offers to go with her. She suggests that he go inside and talk t

Julia and Carolyn are in the same room. Julia asks Carolyn not to follow her around so much, and then leaves the room. Roger and Elizabeth tell Carolyn that Vickie and David will soon be leaving for Boston for a few days of vacation. Carolyn says she is pleased that David is getting away, which surprises Elizabeth. Roger offers Carolyn the chance to go with Vickie and David, but she declines. Carolyn leaves. Roger and Elizabeth talk about Carolyn's recent strange behavior. Later, Vickie is making a bouqet of flowers when Julia enters. Vickie tells Julia it is for Barnabas and tells her about her behavior to him earlier. Carolyn enters and says she is going shopping for a few hours. After Carolyn leaves, Julia closes the door, but Carolyn listens to their conversation from the other side of the door. Julia hypnotizes Vickie, and they leave for the Old House. Carolyn follows. At the Old House, Julia takes Vickie to a room--which had been Maggie's cell which now only contains the coffin W

Julia continues to be concerned that her notebook will fall into the wrong hands. Julia later makes contact with Sarah, who refuses to help her because of her involvement in Woodard's murder.

The visitor turns out to be Barnabas, feigning concern at Julia's welfare. Carolyn makes moves to obtain Tony's keys. Later at his office, Carolyn gains access to the safe, but is discovered by Tony.

Reluctantly, Joshua, the patriarch of the Collins family, hires Miss Winters to become his daughter's (Sarah Collins) new governess. However, his sister, Abigail Collins, is not so pleased. She suspects that Miss Winters may be a witch.

In need of an assistant to help her carry out her plans to sabotage the nuptials, Angelique casts a spell over Ben Stokes, an indentured servant to the Collins family, causing him to lose his free will and become her slave.

Reverend Trask notices an unusual mark on Josette's hand and suspects that she may have been a victim of witchcraft. Despite everything that has happened, Barnabas re-iterates to Angelique that he is still in love with Josette and ONLY Josette. So, Angelique secretly plans to make Barnabas suffer by using his little sister, Sarah, to hurt him.

Angelique begins her assault by stealing Sarah's doll and inserting pins into it, causing Sarah to become very ill. The Collins family and their doctor are at a loss as to what is causing her illness and fear that she is on the brink of death. Angelique casually mentions to Barnabas that she heard of a similar incident back on the island of Martinique and that a special tea was brewed to heal the infirmed. Desperate to help his beloved little sister, Barnabas promises to marry Angelique IF she can cure Sarah. Angelique then brews the special tea and as Sarah drinks it, Angelique removes the pins from Sarah's doll, ""curing"" Sarah instantly.

Despite the family's optimism, Josette believes that Jeremiah is dying and that he doesn't have much time left. Having ""cured"" Barnabas' little sister Sarah, Angelique pressures him to keep his promise and marry her soon.

The ghost of Jeremiah continues to torment Angelique. As Reverend Trask and Abigail Collins continue to hunt for Miss Winters, Barnabas and Ben Stokes hide her at the Old House. Just before her wedding to Barnabas, Angelique is abducted by Jeremiah's ghost and is then buried alive in his own grave.

Barnabas bribes one of the servents and enters the New House at Collinwood to interogate Ben. Ben says he doesn't know who the witch is. Ben gets frustrated and hits Barnabas over the head with a bottle. Ben escapes Collinwood. Barnabas is found by a servent and Joshua tells him to leave. Barnabas finds out that Victoria has been jailed after Reverand Trask turned her in. He now believes that Angelique is most likely the witch. Barnabas finds where Ben is hiding and finds out that Ben can not tell Barnabas who is the witch because he can not speak her name in that fashion. Barnabas tells her about how Victoria will be killed for witchcraft. Barnabas then tells Ben to write the first letter of the name of the witch. Ben makes a 'V'...Barnabas says ""V for Victoria"". Ben then makes a mark in the V which makes it an A. Barnabas then says, ""A....for Angelique""

Angelique tries to clean her blood off the carpet, but is not able to remove it. Naomi comes to the Old House to see Barnabas. Angelique tells her that he left last night on business. We see Barnabas upstairs, appearing very ill and delirious. Naomi enquires about the blood stain, and is told that it was from wine. Naomi tells Angelique that she should stay with her at Collinwood, but Angelique refuses Naomi's hospitality. Naomi hears Barnabas moan, but is told by Angelique that it is just the stairs.

Back at Collinwood, Naomi is worried. She talks to Joshua, and Joshua tells her that he is not concerned because he has become more independent in the past. Joshua thinks that Barnabas ran off with Josette. At that moment, Josette and Natalie enter the room. Josette tells of the feelings she has that something bad has happened to her Barnabas. Naomi tells her that Barnabas is not in Collinsport, but Josette does not believe her. She and Natalie decide to go to the Old House

Angelique tells Josette and Natalie that Barnabas has the plague. They ask if he has seen a doctor, and she quickly responds that he hasn't. When asked why, Angelique says that she is afraid that they will take Barnabas away from her and isolate her from everyone. Natalie has a doctor come. He is not sure about it, but agrees that it is most likely the plague due to the marks on Barnabas' neck, which the doctor thinks was caused by an infected rat. At first the doctor wants to have him removed, but Natalie talks him out of it. Josette visits Victoria in jail. Josette pleads with her to cure Barnabas. Victoria again and again tells her that she is not the witch. Victoria tells Josette to leave Collinsport for her safety. Josette does not understand, and Victoria tells her to look in the Collins Family History book that Victoria had brought with her from the past. Josette and Natalie search Victoria's room. They find it. Josette finds her portrait and an entry on her saying that she died

Willie brings Adam some food to eat. Julia tells Willie to expect this behavior from Adam, after all he feels dejected. Willie tells Julia that he would rather return to Wyndcliffe then continue to live like this, but Julia tells him if he returns to Wyndcliffe he won't ever get out. Willie reluctantly agrees to continue working with Adam. Willie goes back into the cellar to work with Adam. Willie finds out that he likes shiny things, so he opens a secret door and takes out some jewelry, formally owned by Josette Collins, out of the compartment. Willie tells Adam about the time Maggie was in the Old House and thought she was Josette Collins. He puts the jewlery back, and decides to leave to give Maggie a pair of earrings. Meanwhile, at the Evans Cottage, Maggie and Joe are getting ready to leave. Maggie and Joe leave the room to do other things in the cottage, and Willie sneaks in and puts the earrings in Maggie's purse. He the flees the cottage. Meanwhile, in the Old House cellar, Ju

Julia enters the Old House and finds Willie, seemingly in a trance-like state. She goes to him, and he says he was afraid it would be Carolyn. Julia finds that Willie has had the dream. Julia tells Willie that if the dream curse isn't stopped, someone will die--Barnabas. Willie tells Julia the dream, and he acts as if he's crazy. Julia offers to erase his memory of the dream, which he gladly accepts. While hypnotizing him, Willie says he sees a vision of Carolyn--underground! Julia is starteled by this, but continues to erase the memory of the dream. In the root cellar, Carolyn tells Adam to take her away. He does not understand. While his back is turned, she picks up a rock and is about to hit him with it, but he prevents her from doing so. Meanwhile, Julia finds that the memory of the dream will not go away. The dream is to ingrained into Willie's subconscious. Julia asks him about what he said about Carolyn, but he does not remember. He fears that Carolyn may be dead. Meanwhile, Car

In the root cellar, Carolyn wakes up. She tries to get out but can not due to the rock. At Collinwood, Elizabeth and Vickie sit in the drawing room. Elizabeth says she thinks Carolyn is dead--or soon will be. The phone rings, and Elizabeth hurries to answer it. Elizabeth tells Vickie that the person on the phone was the sheriff--Adam has been caught. Elizabeth decides to go to town to question Adam, and Vickie volunteers to go with her. Carolyn muses over things, and decides Adam must've left to get food since that was the only word she said that he fully understood. Meanwhile, at the jail, Adam sits in his cell, frustrated. Vickie and Elizabeth enter with the sheriff's deputy. The deputy makes fun of Adam, and Elizabeth tells him to stay out of Adam's sight. Elizabeth tries to question Adam, but he can not speak. Elizabeth decides they can not get anything from him, and starts to live. Adam moans, and Vickie notes that it seems like he wants to help them. Carolyn starts going crazy in
