The hospital has a damages suit launched against it and Director of Medicine, Oliver Maroney is on the warpath; he wants to know who a deceased patient's wife that her husband died due to hospital negligence. Was it Frank? Erica has to nurse a patient who seems intent on making Erica's life a misery. Frank and Dan's attitudes to a patient change when they learn he deliberately caused the accident that led to his amputation. A Mr. Fixit, James Byrne, arrives in the ED. While he is repairing equipment James will make a play for Erica. Mike and Laura's relationship continues to improve while they wait for Simon to undergo dialysis. But Simon's condition worsens. He's in end stage renal failure now. Meanwhile, its Dan's first day on the job since he began interferon therapy and he's beginning to exhibit symptoms of irritability, vagueness and fever. When pushed Dan reveals the truth to Gabrielle but asks her not to tell anyone else, especially Erica.

Dan, Erica and Jack are running late for work when they find a middle aged woman on the bonnet of Dan's car. After she is taken via ambulance to All Saints, it is soon discovered that her incoherence and her physical frailty are the result of Huntington's disease. In treating her and in talking with her daughter, Dan comes to an important decision about his own health.
Charlotte, Erica and Jack treat a young man struggling to come to terms with what he has done to his body.
On his first day back at work, Mike is thrown into the middle of a major trauma.
Bart comes into the ED to announce that Ann-Maree died the night before.
The ED is stunned to learn the news about Frank's sudden resignation.
