After watching Caprica, I was struck with the idea that they were hinting that the "reality" of this show may have just been set inside a hugely expanded version of the VR world that appeared in Caprica, a VR universe if you like...
Perhaps the OTG was actually Daniel Greystone himself, or someone following in his footsteps, playing with variables in some huge computer simulation, trying to work out the permutations needed for peace to exist between "organic" and synthetic lifeforms.
Maybe the run through of this, the iteration we see in the show, came close to succeeding, leading to the seeming "resurrection" of Kara Thrace, together with her pristine Raptor being thrown back into the system by this OTG so he could continue observing...

It was all a giant "mouse maze" laboratory experiment
But your explanation would explain Baltar's and Six's appearance on modern Earth at the end Or Baltar was the same kind of entity as Starbuck .

Thanks for the multiple "BRILLIANTS" President Darth Ackbar!
A timely bump this as I'm also watching Season 3 Westworld and you could basically apply the same analysis to everything which is happening in that show as well!
... In fact you could put Daniel Greystone inside a Westworld simulation and image BSG as a simulation within a simulation!

I think Ellen Tigh lied Daniel is still alive Daniel is Baltar why else would he see imaginary Caprica Six ?.also if Ellen had lied about the Daniel model and limited his model to making only two of them, the one Calvin destroyed downloaded in the backup and Ellen never told about the existence of the backup so Calvin wouldn't continue has hate towards Daniel. And besides Baltar is the smartest man of the 12 Colonies and he survived the Nuclear blast without as much as a scratch so that scenario could explain all the mysteries surrounding Baltar and the ending.Baltar was Ellen's back-up in case any of 5 wouldn't survive a future conflict between the Cylons and the Twelve Colonies.

What if the light Ships were the Resurrection ships or The Hub?
