and of course they very well could be, but after seeing it constantly happening all the time with everyone around him I figured he has to have some sort of cloak/shield/power that aids him when dealing with people.

but experience has taught me to never underestimate just how dumb people can be.

People are stupid (Donald Trump was elected president!) but as we know, Lynch traffics in the totally absurd. Dougie acting like his brain fell out of his head would certainly be noticed more readily in real life but this is a pretend TV show specifically designed to entertain.

I thought the reason behind it was so we could hear that great instrumental song that was playing. I really would like to know what that music was.

I don't think anything was there to help figure out anything going on in the show . I think they were showing us what is still happening at the bar. I watched and replayed that scene several times just to hear that music playing. Like the other poster said , a guy is sweeping up the peanuts/trash in the Roadhouse while music plays for 3 minutes, no one is there but him and boss, boss answers phone call about some prostitute school girls which he is not responsible for them not working out and the Renault (sp?) family has owned the place for (50? )something years. Maybe it was to show that the school girls are still prostituting like they were back in Laura Palmer's day?
