Discuss Twin Peaks

I'm a huge series junky. I've seen pretty much all the classics and go through more than one season of a show per week so naturally it was time to watch the old Twin Peaks after hearing that they are continuing the show. I've seen the pilot and the first episode now and I have to ask if I am missing something. Sure, every series finds its audience somewhere but good heavens this show is odd. It's insanely slow (Jazz music in the background isn't helping either), the acting by some of the side characters is cheesy as hell and I just don't know what to make of it. At some points it feels like it's one of those conversational comic movies where there isn't really a story and it's more about some odd balls having weird conversations with eachother. Is this it? Is this how the show is going to be for the rest of the season? Right now there isn't anything that would make me want to continue watching. I'd really like to know why some of you enjoy watching this.

You really have to be entrenched in the TP saga to enjoy IMO. You have to watch the original series and especially need to watch Fire Walk With Me. The entire stories aura is based on the mystery of the Black and White Lodge and this extra-dimensional world and trying to find out what can be done to combat these evil and mysterious forces. The greatest thing about the show is that good vs evil is your typical story but with Lynch at the helm it is much more interesting. I won't denied that TP or any of Lynch's work can be hard to absorb and can understand why people hate it.

Lynch is a SURREALISTIC story teller who fits into the AVANT GARDE tradition.

If that's not your cup of tea, then go watch one of those other BORING SUPER HERO films where everything gets SPOON FED to you as if you were still a little baby sitting there inside of a HIGH CHAIR.

Because the kind of stories that LYNCH tells you are NOT SPOON FED to you, and therefore they also require you to do some WORK of your own in order to be able to understand and comprehend them.

And if you're not willing to do it, then this type of a story is also simply NOT the kind of a story for you.

Yeah, we get it. You are very clever for liking the work of a specific director and everybody else is only smart enough to comprehend the transformers movies.
