Mark Frost spent summers in Sand Lake as a child and heard about Hazel Drew's murder from his grandmother, who told it to him as a ghost story.

Drew was last seen alive picking berries at 7pm on 7.7.1908. Her body was then recovered from a pond 4 days later with skull smashed in and a ribbon tied around her neck.
There were rumours that she was far from an innocent young lady she appeared to be and participated in orgies with a group of older men in nearby woods.
