Simple questions with not-so-simple answers:

1.Is Penny a nice person?
2.Is Bernie a nice person?
3.Is Amy a nice person?

Note: I don't mean "do they basically have a good heart". I mean, "Are they nice?"

Tangent question (not related to the TBBT girls): Which would you prefer to be around on a daily basis (for example, as a co-worker):
A)An abrupt, sometimes rude person who is genuine
B)A sweet person who you know is fake

Note: "Neither" is not an acceptable answer to this question. If you were forced to choose one, which would it be?

B, all day

I had my fill of rude people and bullies in high school. One of the things that really struck me when I went out into the working world was how much nicer people were at my job than they ever were in school. At least at work, if people think you or your shoes, hair or clothes are ugly, they don't tell you right to your face. Or point out your flaws, like you don't know you have a zit on your face or gained some weight. They keep it to themselves or gossip behind your back, like normal folks!

We are all fake to a certain degree. But living and interacting in polite society means we have to pretend we aren't aggravated by most people we meet on a daily basis. stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye If we all genuinely expressed our every feeling, the world would be an insufferable place indeed.

Excellent points! And yes, (most) people are definitely nicer as adults than as kids/teens. Thank goodness for maturity and professionalism!

The only answer of yours that would be slightly different for me is #1. For Penny I see her as 2/3 nice, 1/3 snark. (Then again, I didn't state anything about fractions in the rules. stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye )

-1. Penny - Yes (Going by her description of her high school days, she has gone from a "No" then to a "Yes" now.)

-2. Bernie - No (But, there is nothing wrong with her as is.)

-3. Amy - Yes (Born a "Yes". Will live her entire life a "Yes". Will die a "Yes".)

A.

Can't bear fake sweet at all - can't bare too much real sweet either. No sane adult can be that sugary about every-D-thing all-the-D-time!

When it comes to people who are abrupt/sometimes rude, at least, you know what they are thinking. Also, you can tell such a person to stfu--no harm done. Try that with a "sweetie"!

None of them strike me as "nice" especially not Bernie.Penny is a former bully, Bernie is a current bully and Amy can be mean when the situation calls for it.

For the 2nd question, since my HS days I have detested people who aren't genuine. Id rather deal with the blunt honest person.

One of my favorite blunt and honest people in my life was my HS baseball coach. He used to tell me , " You're a great pitcher but you couldn't hit the lotto with a time machine". XD

Good thing I got recruited as a pitcher and not a position player.

Erica and FKA: I have posed the tangent question in my OP to people in my daily life before, and some have answered like you, as well.  The thing is, at least for co-workers, if I had to choose between those two types, I’d choose the sweet one every time.  I worked under a supervisor for about 15 years who was rude and purposely difficult, and I’m just done with that.  It was demoralizing.  I like nice people, and for co-workers or other acquaintances to whom I am not going to get close, I’m not really concerned with how genuine they are (provided I don’t think they are trying to tamper with my job in any way).  Nice co-workers just make the office environment better.

Now, if I had asked in the OP which I would choose for a friend I would have had to allow the “neither” option.  When it comes to friends it’s a whole different ballgame (and I keep my circle of friends purposely very small by the way).  If someone is not genuine and kind, they don’t last very long with me.  I’ve encountered enough “mean” that I don’t spend much time on it anymore.

As for the three BBT girls: For both a co-worker and a friend, I think I’d only want Amy.  I enjoy watching them all on TV, though!  stuck_out_tongue

I think I can give a person such as a coach a pass.

A coach's job isn't to coddle, or be your friend/stroke your ego/be easy on you. A coach's job is not to "sugar coat"; but to tell you like it is, whip your "A" into shape, and not accept anything but your best. That involves pointing out weaknesses as well as strengths.

Of course, if the coach is the kind of person who NEVER pays a compliment--even when due--then I'd say: "spike" that water bottle—kidding.

My own tough-as-nail person was a teacher. Everyone dreaded ending up in her classroom. Sure enough, I did. Trust me, if Beelzebub, Scrooge, and The Grinch had a three-way that produce an off-spring—she would be it. Students and administrators, alike, trembled in her presence.

But, one day I forgot something (I was a walker) and had to go back to get it. Needless to say, I was as quiet as a church mouse—just in case she was still there. She didn’t hear or see me; but, I heard and saw her. She had her head down on her desk, loads of black hair spread out all over, and sobbing (not crying—sobbing). Such heart-wrenching sobs; no one made-of-nails sobs like that.

Of course, the next day she was her same-old-self; but, I kinda didn’t mind anymore.

(NOTE: My description may be a tad exaggerated; but the terror she struck in folks' heart is not.)

I think such folks need their own category. Maybe: "Evil"?

What everyone else just said. As for me no one is as nice as Zack.

Well yes, Zack is nicer than everyone. But he can't be our co-worker unless we want to start making menus for a living. Personally I don't think I could stand the pressure of trying to top his appe-teasers!

Mmmm!! Appe-teasers!!! oden taco stew shallow_pan_of_food

People whose names start with Z are quite nice, come to think of it.

But are they actually nice, or just pretending to be nice while stabbing you in the back every chance they get? If all they have is a nice "face" and talk friendly etc, while trying hard to ruin your life, that doesn't really mean much. I would take that as at least common, if not the standard, for "B)A sweet person who you know is fake "

I think you're taking the word "fake" a bit further than I was. For example, there are a couple of people I work with that I'm not that nuts about. And truth be told, they may not be all that nuts about me. However we "make nice" and work together cordially. I guess you could call that sweet with some fakeness mixed in because we're mature adults who act professional. We're certainly not trying to ruin each other's lives.

Where I work most people are neither A nor B, and those who are B are not fake to any extreme extent.
