I would probably see this show going for at most another few seasons more. So what could be successfully done in the next few seasons? Chuck also has said it will probably end after 12 seasons.
So whats the perfect way to end it all?
I'd say end it HUGE like Sheldon discovers something monumental and wins the Nobel Peace Prize and the whole gang is there listening to his acceptance speech. He then rips all the gang a new one but then ends it with saying how much they all contributed to him winning the Nobel Peace Prize. I'd like Leonard and Penny to have a kid. Sheldon and Amy get married.
But most of all Raj needs to finally find the one and get married as well. Maybe they all can go to India for a BIG Indian wedding!

I knew that at the time--but, got caught up in further discussions--and forgot.

Cool. I just didn't want anyone actually thinking that I believe Howard walking out on his family is a good idea and that I was actually suggesting it.

Saw this--thought of this Thread.
Joel Stein (TIME) quoting Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers) about finales.
"I would feel ripped off if it's, 'O.K., off to bigger and better things.' I want to feel a little bit sad. Because I'm feeling sad about it. And good finales take how the audience is feeling about the finale and put that into the content."

That's a good point too. Treat it like how the audience will be feeling too. Seems like they handled it very well with the finale of Cheers. But not sure how that would translate to TBBT.
They weren't real explicit about people leaving, although Frasier wound up in Seattle (for his own show) and Woody was... what, elected to city council or something? So he wouldn't be behind the bar any more but probably still came by frequently. Rebecca got married but she didn't expect it to last because she's so goofy and might have kept working at the bar anyway. Sam and Diane were planning to get married but that might have gone off the rails again like before... Either way, Sam would still own the bar, though, so he'd always be there. Diane had become a semi-famous author so probably wouldn't be working at the bar. Unless maybe if her next book was a huge flop.
Overall it wasn't really much about endings or departures, yet they still managed to find a tone - or at least an undertone - of melancholy to match the audience's feeling about the show ending. Maybe Chuck Lorre et al could ask Rob Long and others for some advice.
Although I would still kinda like to see Sheldon get a piano dropped on him... Maybe a piano that was being hoisted by a "rope" of some new material Sheldon invented, that turns out to have some problems...

Not to nitpick; but, this is quoting me, quoting someone, who is quoting someone else.
I know you are not responsible for how this site is set up; but, it comes off as if the words are mine—they are not.
How about editing in a notation clarifying ownership?
Chances are we'll never have Stein or Lindelof visiting this Board—but still….
Thanks.

Not at all.
The piano is being hoisted up. The gang watches. Sheldon stands under the piano complaining that the workers are doing it all wrong.
The next scene is a funeral home with the piano taking the place of a coffin.
Howard:" Well he was right. They were doing it wrong."
Leonard:" That's how he wanted to go....being right."

A piano is not Sheldony enough. How about he goes to Comic -Con and someone drops a Bat'Leth on him. Or a life sized Batman statue.

Just give me a good two part clip show with all my favorite scenes and a sappy song played over them.
