Discuss La Teoría del Big Bang

Anyone else think Howard getting a vasectomy is too drastic?

Also I'm surprised they kept the pedo joke in with all the news circling around Hollywood about sexual assault and child abuse. That's pretty tone deaf of them.

And How is Howard who's allergic to peanuts going to eat Kung Pao chicken?

Other than those issues, decent episode.

Eh, in reality Jews frown on vasectomies. At least Orthodox Jews. And it's a bit drastic, but at least we won't have to endure ANOTHER kid on the show after this one. It will be interesting though if Melissa Rauch gets pregnant again and the show is still on the air.

Overall, I thought it was a good episode. This season has provided quite a few laughs when compared to the last few. I think it has a different feel now that former showrunner Steven Molaro has left for YOUNG SHELDON. Steve Holland has breathed some fresh air into the show, despite being handicapped with being forced to deal with Rauch's actual pregnancy.

That would be pretty hilarious if she got pregnant again. Then they'd be forced to write a Botched vasectomy storyline or a Bernadette Raj affair storyline.

Kind of taken aback when I heard it, but had to remember it was pre "all the news circling around Hollywood". If not for that ugliness who would have given that line a second thought since Sheldon has made similar confused statements in the past.

Even so, if it had been a live broadcast--then, yes, it would have been in extremely poor taste.

No. Mr. Lemons had the "BIG V" after we had two kids. However, I'm surprised Howie didn't wait until after baby #2 was born. What if Bernie were to miscarry? Then they couldn't have a 2nd child.

And How is Howard who's allergic to peanuts going to eat Kung Pao chicken?

Another peanut screw up! Those writers are nuts.

I agree. I really liked this episode. I thought it was well-written.

Remember Penny's line about how if she finds a top that she likes, she goes back for another of a different color? And she hopes that doesn't happen with Howard and Bernadette's baby? Smells like maybe a setup, or at least keeping an option open? But probably just a coinkydink.

Of course Howard couldn't really eat Kung Pao Chicken. And maybe not a lot of other Chinese take-out since a lot of those places use peanut oil for cooking.

But I knew a guy who loved Kung Pao Chicken except for the peanuts just as an issue of taste or texture, not allergy. One time as a treat for him, I asked the people at Panda Express if they could make a batch without the peanuts, and I would buy it all. They agreed. We both had leftovers for a couple days, but it was good.

And of course, Bernadette isn't the only character who could turn up pregnant. I know some people don't like that, but it could happen. At least they seem to be making a point of not actually showing the babies.

Everything seemed to happen too quickly, about the Professor Proton thing. We know that only a couple days passed because of Howard's surgery and recovery. How is that long enough to announce the auditions for a new Professor Proton show AND that Wil Wheaton had been cast?

Exactly, you wait until the child's birth. But even then , is surgery really necessary? There are so many birth control options you can't count them. Perhaps they discussed them off screen, but then how do you come to the conclusion that a vasectomy is the best option? IMO that's a last resort.

I understand the procedure can be reversible but would you really want to go into surgery AGAIN and risk any complications?

Hey Erica. I don't really want to give too much detail on my personal medical/family history that led to our decision for this type of birth control, or the sexual enhancements that resulted from it (and believe me there were some). (I know you didn't ask for that, but I'd have to, to explain why we chose this option.) However, I will give this info if it helps:

A vasectomy is drastic in that it involves a procedure that will end a man's ability to produce children. However, the procedure itself is quite simple in that it is outpatient and the man is awake the whole time. There is about a 48-72 hour recovery period. Have it on a Friday, back to work on Monday. It is also reversible. My brother-in-law, sister and 8 year-old niece are proof of that (long story). Sometimes for a variety of reasons it is the best option, but of course must be considered carefully by each couple with lots of pros and cons weighed.

And I agree with you 100% that Howard and Bernie should have waited until baby #2 was born. It should only be performed when a couple is 100% sure that they will never want to have another baby for any reason.

My brother told me "Some people will say it doesn't hurt that much. They are F----ing lying". Also, my brother-in-law had it, and it was botched and created a great deal of complications. Me? I've never had one and probably won't. But if I do, I'll book it in advance for the most popular time of the year - the day before the NCAA Basketball Tournament. You get snipped, then spend Thursday - Sunday watching college hoops. But you have to book that Wednesday way in advance - as it's seriously the most popular day for Vasectomies all year.

Right, it is reversible as you both mentioned. I think it was a panic move more than anything. When you suddenly have an unexpected second pregnancy, I think the calm rational discussion on birth control goes out the window. It's difficult enough for new parents to adjust to one child, two is an arduous task.

I actually have two kids , we had my son, but my daughter is adopted. If we had a second by chance my wife might have suggested we shut it down but that didn't happen. We decided to be content with adoption from there on out and that insured we'd have one boy and one girl.

If things went the other way it's possible I could have taken measures to prevent anymore kids but the idea of getting snipped never thrilled me. I don't like hospitals, doctors or anything doctor related if it's not on Television.

I think I will just humbly say that I realize it can lead to complications, but it just didn’t for Mr. Lemons, and turned out to be a great thing for us. I was very thankful when he stepped up willingly to do it, and he was a trooper for the brief recovery period afterwards. For what it’s worth, I just asked him if he had any regrets about the procedure and he quickly answered “no”.

And that was no joke when Howie had the frozen peas on his “area”. Frozen peas are a normal part of the recovery!! smiley

Yeah. Thought it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too drastic--for a lot of the reasons already mentioned; plus the age thing.

Anyway, made me curious; so I did a search:

"The average age for a man getting a vasectomy in America is 38 years old.

29% are under age 35

61% are under age 40."

Surprised! I expected the majority to be at least be 40+.

NOTE: From one health insurance company's site showing data collected from their claims (347K), 2013-2016.

Where was Althea ? I was waiting for her to show up in the waiting room. Also slap some green paint on Leonard and he could be the new Hulk. And could someone please give Raj a chair for once or at least a basket and a snake if he keeps sitting on the floor (Howard told me to say that, Bazinga!) .
