A widower, realizes to his astonishment that his daughter, a typical wholesome American girl, begins to act strangely almost overnight, stealing and disobeying him. When he shadows her one night, he realizes she has fallen in with drug addicts and herself becomes addicted to narcotics.

Major Joppolo and his men are assigned to restore order to the war-torn Italian town of Adano. He has to manage getting supplies into town without interfering with troop movements, all the while dealing with colorful citizens of the town. One of his quests is to replace the bell which orders the town's life. The relations between the lovable U.S. officers and equally lovable natives of occupied countries is interesting.
Edmond O'Brien was effective as the idealistic Major Joppolo, and Charles Bronson played
that familiar folk hero, the tough sergeant with the heart of gold.
