Poorly? Horribly? Non-canon-y?

It seems like they're hell-bent on ruining every single aspect of Star Trek by retconning established canon
That would be so much better

Whoever thought that this was a good idea should get psychological help. This show is about PIKE'S Enterprise, not Kirk's. Oy gevalt!

As I've mentioned in this post "Kirk is back!", Paul Wesley is known for his role as the vampire Stefan Salvatore in "The Vampire Diaries (2009-2017)".
He looks a bit like Robert Pattinson (as Edward Cullen) from the "The Twilight Saga" vampire movies.
Robert Pattinson Vs. Paul Wesley
The producers hope that his fans will want to watch "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" and boost the viewer ratings even more.
They already have Spock, Uhura and Chapel in season 1.
Kirk is expected to appear in season 2, where he'll meet La’an Noonien Singh, who is related to Khan Noonien Singh.
Old Star Trek fans can expect other characters, like Vina, Mudd and many more, to also return.
Side notes:
Future plans are for a reboot or remake of "Star Trek: The Original Series (1966-1969)" with the new crew of Kirk, Spock, McCoy and others being introduced in "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds".

I dont know Paul Wesley ..took a look at his imdb photo and he looks the brooding type just like Robert Pattinson in Twilight. Wesley is also 40 , he doesn't look fresh anymore ..William Shatner was dashing and he had that sparkle in his eye . Wesley reminds me more of Jeffery Hunter in The Cage. I'm not impressed with their choice.
Also , what has Kirk got to do with Pike and Spock ? Anson and Peck were the best thing in ST:Discovery season 2. I want to see them in "Strange New Worlds " ,they can hand over the torch after a couple of season to Kirk.
Future plans are for a reboot or remake of "Star Trek: The Original Series (1966-1969)" with the new crew of Kirk, Spock, McCoy and others being introduced in "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds".
They are going to reinvent TOS??
I just watched a link in which CBS confessed that it could not continue to produce Star Trek material that 40% Trekkies are not willing to watch.
That's why CBS decide to produce Strange New Worlds ..it wanted to go back to the original to get back on board that 40%.
So what the hell is this thing now about future plans for a reboot or remake of TOS.??

Kirk was supposed to be early- or mid-30s as I recall, when he took command. If Paul Wesley is already 40, that seems like a bad idea right from the start.
Also, Paul Wesley was always supposed to be the TV-budget look-close-enough-alike version of Robert Pattinson for the vampire TV shows.

I had another look at his imdb photo and then the trailer next door ..the guy projects a dark , brooding vibe great if you are playing a vampire ... bad casting choice .
Kirk was 32 when he took over the Enterprise.. Paul Wesley just looks too old for the part.

by Baron :
would that be any weirder than 30-something playing high school students in so many of these teen movies and shows?
I watched Buffy ( I had a crush for Spike ) and that's about it in regards to teen /high school student shows. So I can't comment . Instead teenage movie I saw a couple : To Sir, with Love and Rebel Without a Cause ..James was 23 at the time but in those days teens look more mature so he pulled it off.
Some actors/actresses look younger than their age ... Paul Wesley is 40 and he looks 40 ....he also has this dark, gloomy vibe .....I think it's harder for a 40 year old to look 30 than it is for a 30 year old to look in their late teens.

Is Kirk going to sow his space ̶o̶a̶t̶s̶ seed in season 2?
Now we know why Khan and Kirk don't get along.

Yeah, it's not like Khan tried to murder Kirk and take over the USS Enterprise to attack Earth and enslave all of mankind like some Putin

Naw, Khan never tried to take over Earth. (Although "Empress Sato" did in the awful Enterprise series episodes.) Khan would likely have just taken over some remote colony world that Starfleet would either not know about, or couldn't be bothered to defend. Just one ship couldn't defeat all of Starfleet, not even if that one ship is the Enterprise.

Never claimed Khan would only need a single starship to take over Earth. The USS Enterprise would be a stepping stone to ever expanding his powerbase, like all dictators do

It would be a long time before Khan and the few-dozen henchmen he started with would be able to control a fleet, and even then they'd still have the rest of Starfleet to deal with, and Starfleet would probably get help from the Vulcans and others too.
