That's not true in this particular case... like SecretaryIMF points out in her post here below copied and pasted, there is no need for Kirk to appear.

They don't "need" the memberberries in terms of the show timeline, but they use them to try and bring in more viewers and because so much of their writing etc just sucks.

We should remember that Kirk was specifically the youngest person to get command of a starship. So it wouldn't be surprising if Pike et al would be in their 40s or even 50s. (Which is why it was odd when Commodore Mendez said they were about the same age, in "Menagerie" part 1.)

And how old was Vina , in her early 30s when she met Pike ..so she was a child when their spaceship crashed on Talos?

Vina was at least in her 40s, maybe 50s, when Pike and the Enterprise came to Talos IV. But the Talosians were giving here the illusion of youth and beauty, including to Vina herself. Remember that Number One identified Vina as having been an ADULT crewmember when the ship crashed, 18 years earlier.

NUMBER ONE: Well, shall we do some time computation? There was a Vina listed on that expedition as an adult crewman. Now, adding eighteen years to your age then...

So in other words Anson is more suitable to play Pike than Jeffery Hunter was , cause Hunter sure did not look like he was 51 in The Cage...

or did the writers change Pikes birth date. ?..I wouldn't put it passed them.

Okay , I guess it's not the end of the world but I can see the writers just love to change the cards around. I re- watched "The Man That Fell to Earth " yesterday and I was thinking the title doesn't make sense ;David Bowie was an alien. Also I didn't remember how much nudity there was in this film...I saw it about 25 years ago.

It'll be interesting to see what they'll do with Kirk's age. Shatner (born 1931) was 34 when they started filming (S)TOS in 1965. Kirk (born 2233) was 32 when he took command of the USS Enterprise in 2265.

"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" is set around 2259, so Kirk should be about 26-27 years old.

Wesley (born 1982), the actor for the new Kirk, is 39 years old now when they start filming season two.

Kirk was born in 2233 and in 2265 he took over the Enterprise ..he was 32 years old ..and we all know , he was the youngest starship captain ..full stop. Why didn't the damn producers find an actor that was younger then ... his actor Wesley ,I already mentioned , was a poor choice. You see , these damn producers/writers just create problems just for the sake of it
