Forgive me for just ignoring all this BS claptrap nonsense.

No problem. That's a smart thing to do. All these changes make your head explode every time. wink

by wonder2wonder :

The deviation from the original time line has continued and there is no way back.

I don't understand why producers and writers just didn't make Michael Burnham part of a new timeline (she doesn't even belong in the original timeline, she just became part of Spock's childhood by magic). Being in a new timeline writers could have freely messed around as much as they wanted even more then the 25% required without creating issues with old fans that love TOS,like me and knix.

Why not use Nero's alternate timeline .. Nuspock gets a step sister as he grows up.

We are supposed to believe that Spock never mentioned his sister in TOS for some binding classified protocol agreement...but that only applied to her ultimate mission that took Discovery and the crew to the future.. the "it is classified "excuse doesn't explain why Spock never mentioned her to Kirk in TOS ..it's a feeble attempt to explain why he never even acknowledged having a sister.

The actress Celia Rose Gooding cut her hair short for her role because she wants to make a statement:

"... craving to be a part of the representation I want to see in the world..."

I don't get having short hair is making a statement ...What statement is she referring to?

I like the looks and haircut of the actress that plays Chapel despite I don't see why she was introduced already under Pike's command. Chapel was infatuated with Spock in TOS but Spock never showed any interest in her ..he was aware of her feelings for him but he just ignored them.

You all act as if it is so strange that Kurtzman and the folks at Secret Hideout will mess thing up with SNW and no George Kirk will not appear in SNW it is actually a young Kirk that will feature in SNW while in the original timeline Kirk was probably on board the USS Farragut .Kirk hadn't been near the USS Enterprise until he took command of her. The whole problem with new Trek is not so much the time periods they want to show it is that the show writers don't know how to write good SF (or SF in general for that matter) nor do they have knowledge of what happened in previous iterations of Star Trek since Secret Hideout actively shuns writers who know or like Star Trek .

In the trailer the dialogue between Spock and Christine is like what I'd write in fanfiction or YA books.

Spock: "I thought you might need to discuss your feelings."

(Christine slaps Spock)

Spock: "I feel I should have seen that coming."

Spock: "I applaud your performance."

Christine: "Don't thank me. I know that I'm good at my job."

I enjoyed the first episode more than any other first ST episode. Him being haunted about his future reminds me of the great Cornell Woolrich noir Night Has a Thousand Eyes. The Enterprise and Pike’s hair are amazing.

The phrase "I thought you might need to discuss your felings " is definitely not something TOS Spock would have said ..he was adamant to deny he had emotions.

Steve writes that he liked seeing Pike haunted about his future ( I am guessing that is referring to his accident).

I would like to know if, despite all the changes to canon ( eg. an emotional Spock) did the episode in part have a TOS vibe to it?

It did. The show felt like TOS but updated. The cozy bridge -- compared to the giant ones on Discovery -- seemed closer to TOS. Friendships between Spock and Pike was exactly like TOS. I realize lots won't like them changing canon a lot (even I noticed about 5 things!) but the overall feel is the old ST shows, certainly the 90s shows. The characters seem all likeable and fun. I kinda wanted Spock to be the shouty spock from The Cage but he is not. He, I think because of all the dump of information in the dialog, seems too chatty right now. May take a bit for the Spock character to settle. Pike's quarters has a FIREPLACE. Lol

That sounds awful. Way worse than Pike's quarters in The Cage/The Menagerie having a single bed and a TV.

Did I read somewhere, that the SNW Enterprise has an all-female bridge crew?

I didn't realize it but yup. Pike, Spock and all women. Now, a few of those are Uhura and Number 1, but yes. Uhura has the old ear piece but looks to have more to do on this Trek. There's other males on board... the doctor and most of the crew, Lt. Kirk. They didn't do what Discovery did, at least so far, and have the bridge be non-players in the show. Uhura and Nurse Chapel at least so far seem the coolest secondary characters.

Well, the first officer (Una), helmsman - or person (Ortega), navigator (Mitchell), communication cadet (Uhura) and chief of security (La’an Noonien-Singh) are female. Although at least one is non-binary.

The captain (Pike) and science officer (Spock) are males.

Here is a post about some crew members.

TBH it may be a common area not his quarters because it’s a huge room. But still fireplace! That HBO pirate comedy has a pirate ship with a fireplace as a joke. “Why would you have a fireplace on a wooden ship?”

Reminds me of TNG with all the carpet and a silly aquarium

What in the name of Robert Lansing is going on?

The same thing that happened with STD, Short Treks, STP, Lower Decks, etc.

Untalented people who don't know a thing about Star Trek are in charge

This is only the beginning of the first season, so it's difficult to say yet. However, the first impression is that it's a mix of vibes from (S)TOS - with its 'member berries' - and "Star Trek: Discovery" and "Star Trek: Picard", which shouldn't be surprising as the writers and producers are from the Kurtzman team.

@sunshine62 Ciao.

Saluti e baci.🥰
