The Movie Database Support

Hello,

I don’t know for certain where I should post this but there is currently no page for Paul Schrader‘s “Dark” which makes no sense why not which was his own personal re-edit of the original titled film “Dying of the Light” which is a version he doesn’t support. A page really should be made of “Dark” on here. I don’t know I need to do it or someone from the site needs to in order to connect it with Letterboxd’s page so content like posters & such can be uploaded.

I invite you to read this old content report.

I read the content report but I don’t agree with the assessment. I understand in not wanting unofficial versions but the film was re-edited by the Director Paul Schrader, himself and the film can be watched on YouTube as the film is run through UCLA’s Film Archives. It would be one thing if some random person did the edit but it’s the Director and obviously, it’s an official version if it’s being distributed for streaming through an established channel that doesn’t just collect content from anyone. I think there should be some reconsideration on the matter.

The main cause of the removal was that it's an alternate version.

The second line is just a complement, this is not the reason of the removal.

Hmm…I don’t necessarily agree with this. You have alternative versions already on here. Look no further than “Justice League” & “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”. Snyder’s version is an alternative which by that standard shouldn’t be on here then. It’s the same with Schrader’s situation but different. The original version was stripped from Schrader during post-production in his case. One could argue that “Dark” is just as much an original film as the producer’s version “Dying of the Light”. They have different titles & could be potentially claimed as 2 different films really unlike the Justice League situation. This is not a typical Director’s Cut scenario which is usually just an alternative version of the same exact title but yet, you’ve already broken the whole “don’t accept” alternative versions with “Justice League”. It seems a bit double standard if you ask me.

There are very few of them. They are exceptions that have been approved by the administrator at the time of the broadcast.
