I agree — I don’t like how things are deleted without any consideration. They just do as they please, and it makes some things hard to find. For Japanese content, they should use “manga”, not “comic” ❌❌❌ They should ask for users’ opinions before making changes, not just do it arbitrarily. I’ve noticed this happen many times. 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎

If the anime says the original work is a manga or published as a manga, then sure. But, for example, if it mentions it's a light novel that was later turned into a manga or a manga that was later turned into a light novel and the anime only mentions the light novel, then no. Even the localized ja-JP translation uses "漫画" (transliteration: "manga").

The translated ja-JP crew name for "Comic Book" could be mistranslated and maybe should be changed to either "コミック・ブック" (comic book), "コミック" (comic), or "コミックス" (comics) instead of "漫画" to more accurately reflect the English name since a manga is a type of comic, just like a graphic novel, but neither of them are a comic books, and a comic book is neither a manga nor a graphic novel.

Additionally, using the "Comic Book" credit for the manga authors is the incorrect credit to use because, in my experience, manga authors are always credited as "原作" (original work) in their respective anime adaptations. I've even seen authors added to entries with the incredibly incorrect credit of "Original Series Creator," which is meant for when the creator of a TV show is credited in a new adaptation or spin off as having creating the original show.

I'm half-Japanese and have translated Japanese to English quite extensively at a professional level some years ago. There is nothing wrong with using "漫画" for that crew credit but I do agree that "コミック・ブック" would be better (keep in mind though that a good translation translates the idea, not just the words). But as I mentioned, the crew jobs are very limited here on TMDB, so isn't using the "Comic Book" crew job a better compromise than using a "based on comic" keyword?

This feels like a very hardline view. That credit is always accompanied by the original manga title as well as the magazine it has been published in, so it's clear they are referring to the manga.

The other idea I can think of is that we switch to using the "Other" (writing category) crew job and then use the "based on manga" keyword? Whatever is decided, it should be done everywhere.
