Thanks for your report!
There are 2 different options for TMDb:
1.) This is 1 single tv series with 2 seasons.
Then we need only 1 entry on TMDb.
2.) These are 2 different tv series with 1 season each.
Then we need 2 different entries on TMDb.
I don't speak Chinese, so I'm not sure what we should do?!?
Can you help me out?!?
On the English Wikipedia, it says in the description of the second part:
"Even though the series is marketed as a sequel to Wind and Cloud (2002), it was produced by a different company and is loosely connected to Wind and Cloud."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_and_Cloud
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_and_Cloud_2
On website MyDramaList, there are 2 different entries:
https://mydramalist.com/1357-wind-and-cloud
https://mydramalist.com/13794-wind-and-cloud-ii
On website DramaWiki, there's 1 entry with 2 seasons:
https://wiki.d-addicts.com/Wind_and_Cloud
The ultimate proof would be the original page on network CTV - but it's so hard to find for me. Because it's all in Chinese...
I used the wayback machine and found these old archived pages:
https://web.archive.org/web/20060130110634/http://www.ctv.com.tw:80/event/windcloud/
https://web.archive.org/web/20050104023043/http://www.ctv.com.tw:80/event/2004/wind2/view.htm
Is this info about this show?!?
If it is: the different parts of the urls ("windcloud" versus "wind2") seem to indicate that these are 2 different shows - not 2 different seasons of the same show.
But I can't decide on my own - I need some help...

"Wind and Cloud 1" and "Wind and Cloud 2" are indeed part of the same series. "Wind and Cloud 2" continues the storyline of "Wind and Cloud 1," with both adapted from the same-named comic. "Wind and Cloud 1" was a co-production between mainland China and Taiwan, while "Wind and Cloud 2" was solely produced and released by mainland China. Although the production companies differ and some cast members were replaced, this does not affect the fact that the two are sequels. On Chinese streaming platforms like Youku https://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMjQ4NDcyMTYw.html https://s2.loli.net/2025/07/13/7dewFiPjlqN3tgH.png https://s2.loli.net/2025/07/13/WfK7xZzsLuboRhD.png and Tencent https://v.qq.com/x/cover/cqwdhq3x9zr6tzm/i0015i7o30u.html https://s2.loli.net/2025/07/13/ljTBP3arv5imNdt.png https://s2.loli.net/2025/07/13/9ERz5hBuGjgc8iy.png , they are clearly labeled as Season 1 and Season 2, not as separate entities.
Additionally, according to the end credits https://s2.loli.net/2025/07/13/VZ7no8QXFcy59SJ.png https://s2.loli.net/2025/07/13/HvwRYF1g8jI6Wzy.png of both seasons and the region specified on streaming platforms https://s2.loli.net/2025/07/13/RVMevyCDlBjbwFK.png https://s2.loli.net/2025/07/13/NpSdO7iEh6VoM92.png, the default region should be listed as China, not Taiwan. Please update this information accordingly. Thank you.

Personally, I have not watched this series, but yes, these two are marketed as one. On the Chinese Wikipedia page, it states that due to the different productions, many changes had to be made to the characters and storyline to connect season 2 to season 1, but it is a continuation of season 1. However, it does not state that it is a loose adaptation of season 1, as we see on the English Wiki page.
MyDramaList will always (or typically) list out seasons and parts of shows as their own entries with notes to the other season/part as a sequel or prequel.
Yes, those two pages are for "season 1" and "season 2" of the show. However, Taiwanese drama networks would typically list out their seasons with separate urls despite it being direct seasons.
Not sure if my response was helpful. But with the notes from user sasamiya and tmbd rules, you can make the call on which way it is best to keep. Thanks for looking into this and for the help on this report.

@chkchkboom
Thank you so much for your replies!
I trust your expertise and followed your advice:
1.) The duplicate entry is gone.
2.) I changed the default region from Taiwan to China.
In case you notice anything else, you can open this report again and add it!

@sasamiya
I'm sorry, I had to reverse the change that I made and that you suggested:
"the default region should be listed as China, not Taiwan"
2.) I changed the default region from Taiwan to China.
I just changed it back here at the top in the data field "Origin Country":
https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/96000/edit?active_nav_item=primary_facts
I read up in the contribution bible about the data field "Origin Country" here:
https://www.themoviedb.org/bible/tv/59f73eb49251416e71000025#59f7405a9251416e71000035
Quote:
"The origin country should be paired with the original air dates and original network. It is the main production country where the show originally aired in."
This rule is a bit complicated for this show!
Because it mixes "original network" (CTV - Taiwan) and "main production country" (China), which are both different for this show.
So - how to solve this?
If I understand this correctly, CTV is a network in Taiwan only - and not in mainland China.
Based on the current data, both seasons originally aired first on CTV:
https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/96000/season/1/edit?active_nav_item=production_information
https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/96000/season/2/edit?active_nav_item=production_information
If this is indeed correct, the airing on CTV was the first and original airing of both seasons.
Before (!) it was streamed on other services in mainland China like Youku and Tencent.
Based on this current data, I think the data field "Origin Country" should be Taiwan - not China.
I'm not sure about this decision, but I can see in the change history of the entry that another moderator made this change back in May 2023:
https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/96000/changes?filter_key=key&filter=origin_country
Except, of course, the current data is wrong and CTV is not the original network for both seasons.
What's correct?!?

Season 1 (2002) was a co-production between Mainland China and Taiwan. It first aired in Taiwan on CTV on January 18, 2002 https://web.archive.org/web/20060209111221/http://www.ctv.com.tw/event/windcloud/news04.htm, and later in Mainland China on TVS-3(广东南方电视台综艺频道 has been renamed to 广东广播电视台4K超高清频道) on June 8, 2002 https://web.archive.org/web/20250713112814/https://ent.sina.com.cn/v/2002-06-05/86359.html
Season 2 (2004–2005) was produced solely by Mainland China, with no co-production credit from Taiwan. It first aired in Taiwan on CTV in October 2004 https://web.archive.org/web/20041230183236/http://www.ctv.com.tw/event/2004/wind2/view.htm, and later aired in Mainland China on TJTV-2(天津二台/天津广播电视台文艺频道) on January 15, 2005 https://web.archive.org/web/20250713113015/https://ent.sina.com.cn/2005-01-15/0845631301.html.
If we follow the “International Co-production” and “International Broadcast” rules outlined in the TMDb contribution guide (https://www.themoviedb.org/bible/tv/59f73eb49251416e71000025#59f7405a9251416e71000035), the series did not premiere on streaming platforms in Mainland China — it originally aired on television.
According to TMDb’s “International co-production” rule, Season 1 was not broadcast on the same day in both regions (Taiwan on January 18, Mainland China on June 8), and simultaneous broadcast on the same day is required to be considered a joint premiere.
According to TMDb’s “International broadcast” rule, for Season 2, Taiwan aired the series earlier than Mainland China, but since the Taiwanese company did not participate in production, Taiwan should not be listed as an “origin country.”
Additionally, TMDb rules state that when Canada airs episodes of an American series a few days ahead of the US broadcast (e.g., Chicago Med or The Real O'Neals), the Canadian network is not added as a network and the dates are not used as the first air dates.* Season 2’s situation is similar to this.
Therefore, the origin country should not be listed as Taiwan only.
The information I have collected is as provided above. I hope it will be of assistance.

@sasamiya wrong:
Thank you so much for looking into this!
I just noticed that the air dates currently given for both seasons are actually June 8, 2002 (season 1) and January 15, 2005 (season 2):
https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/96000/season/1
https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/96000/season/2
As you explained - these air dates are not from CTV, but from TVS-3 / TJTV-2!
So this data also does not align to one another.
Argh, it's so complicated...

I don't know how to decide this right now...

Sorry, since this TV series is labeled as a China production on all major platforms in Chinese Mainland, I was able to find some news reports about its premiere there. However, due to how long ago it aired, I wasn’t able to find any news coverage of its broadcast in Taiwan. The relevant websites also no longer have information on the detailed episode schedule, so I’m afraid there’s not much I can do. You might want to try asking other mods for help.

Yes, maybe another moderator can chime in here.
I tend to think we should ignore the broadcast on Taiwanese network CTV.
But I'm not sure that's what we should decide here?!?
