Ever since HBO made the announcement that their hit drama Game of Thrones would be making its departure in spring of 2019, there’s been a hot debate over which new show would be the one to fill the fantasy void. Plenty of streaming services have made their case, with HBO announcing their new Watchmen series, Amazon Prime announcing a new Lord of the Rings adaptation (too soon!) and Netflix starting out their own epic offering, The Witcher.

If this new series sounds familiar to you, you’re probably a video game player. The Witcher is an adaptation of the book series that inspired the popular video game. Talk about a story seeing a ton of iterations. Its plot will revolve around Geralt, a monster hunter.

Will The Witcher fill the Game of Thrones void? Only time will tell. Video game adaptations have a notoriously negative reputation, but I still think there’s room for hope.

After all, there are more than a few positives to look forward to. For one thing, the series is set to star prominent actor Henry Cavill. While the casting choice was controversial, to say the least, he looks great in an early makeup test and he does have the long resume to back up his acting chops.

Additionally, it’s noteworthy to point out that Defenders and Daredevil writer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is set to be showrunner for The Witcher. Clearly, she’s done good work and it’s probably safe to expect the same quality in the series’ 8 episodes.

While we’re not sure what to expect, you can count our interests as collectively piqued. We’ll definitely be tuning in for this series premiere.

The Witcher release date on Netflix has been narrowed down to a few months!

According to a report from Deadline, The Witcher is coming to Netflix in Q4 (October, November or December). That should be great news for fans of the series. This show is on schedule and will be released on Netflix later this year.

Netflix also revealed that The Witcher was coming in the last three months of the year.

On its investor call, Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandso revealed that the fantasy drama, which stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia and is currently in production in Hungary, would launch in Q4. The series, which follows a solitary monster hunter struggling to find his place in a world, is written, exec produced and showrun by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.

Season 1 of The Witcher has finally come to an end. And although I'm pulling a face here it has been an incredible journey! The cast and crew worked tirelessly throughout, everyone pitched in and brought their A game to set and I couldn't be more proud of you all. Speaking of my immediate team.
