Biography

Gina Cromwell is a British set decorator based in London. Affiliated with the British Film Designers Guild, the Set Decorators Society of America, and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, she has cultivated a career spanning over three decades, beginning in the late 1990s. Her early work included the TV film Another Life (2001), Circus (2000), and The Young Visiters (2003), eventually progressing to become Set Decorator for Downton Abbey in its formative seasons (1, 3, and 4).

Her filmography reflects a focus on meticulously crafted period authenticity, with credits on major productions such as Mary Queen of Scots (2018), Downton Abbey (film, 2019), and Made in Italy (2020). Cromwell also made a significant impact on television with her work on Outlander Seasons 1–3 (2014–2017).

However, one of her most celebrated contributions has been to the Netflix phenomenon Bridgerton (2020–2022). Cromwell's skilful use of tactile, analogue mood boards—a process she describes as "no-tech," involving cut-and-paste visuals from vintage sources—has been essential in shaping the show's sumptuous Regency-era interiors, including Lady Danbury's residence, Daphne Bridgerton's bedroom, and the iconic ballrooms. Industry recognition for her work on Bridgerton culminated in a nomination from the Set Decorators Society of America for Best Achievement in Décor/Design of One-Hour Series in 2020 and again in 2021.

Cromwell's exceptional eye for period detail and narrative-driven design has earned her multiple Emmy nominations. She was nominated for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Period or Fantasy Program for Bridgerton in 2021 and earlier received nominations for her work on Outlander (2016) and Downton Abbey in 2011, 2013, and 2014. These accolades underscore her consistent excellence in using set decoration to deepen story worlds and character authenticity.
