Worst opening weekend for an X-Men movie with 32 million, it got beaten by Secret Life of Pets 2. The movie was destined for failure with countless reshoots and getting pushed back non stop.
Honestly I feel so bad for Sophie Turner.

The trailers weren’t that good either. Poor Sophia. From ending her big show with backlash to a total bomb of a movie. It’s not her fault the writers screw things up :/

From someone who’s actually seen the film it was TERRIBLE. Like it left the audience scratching their head’s and mouth drop of disappointment. Don’t even waste your time seeing this film at the red box just don’t see it.

It’s just not Sophie’s year. Two critical flops that were completely out of her control.

Even if you try to ignore how far from the source material the movie is, I can't deal with the fact that this happens 30 years after First Class yet they all look the same! WTF! Charles is supposed to be 55/60 at least in this movie and he doesn't look a day over 30, same with Beast, or what about Nightcrawler who still looks like a teenager despite this movie being at least a good 10 years after Apocalypse? Or the fact that they supposedly want to keep peace between mutants and humans yet they decide to have a huge fight in the middle of the streets! So utterly ridiculous...Charles could've waited for Magneto and Co. to get inside the house so at least the fight would be somewhat contained...but nope they just throw everything away in 5 minutes.
I also never got a satisfying enough explanation of why Jean is evil...it's just your generic "I went crazy and want to kill everything around me" snap after a somewhat traumatic event, there isn't any real motive or drive behind anything she's doing, she's just like a lost wild animal reacting to what's happening around her. And are we going to ignore that Jean had already become Phoenix in Apocalypse? That part was totally forgotten and she gets a new origin in this one.
Throw in the random aliens with the super cliche master plan of taking over the world. And Storm being able to manipulate all elements yet all she does is throwing some lightning and some wind. Sigh. It's just a bad story.

I liked First Class A LOT. I loved Days of Future Past. Apocalypse had me shook by how bad it was, so I'm not surprised this flopped like it did.
