They're both at a place in their career where it's not necessarily clear how much space there is for them at the center of mainstream pop music. The effervescent brand of turbo-pop that both artists largely rose to top 40 stardom on ten years ago isn't as prevalent on radio or Spotify playlists as it once was, both artists' somewhat checkered record crossing over to the hip-hop world leaves that as murky territory for them to return to, and both artists' recent change-ups -- Perry attempting "Purposeful Pop" on her Witness album, and Cyrus getting rootsier on her Younger Now -- largely failed to resonate with non-fans.
For both, these teased directions could be seen as modernized spins on the respective sounds that Cyrus and Perry had the most success with -- in theory, at least, a good sign for a reversal of commercial fortunes for each.
Of course, both the JoBros and Gaga had another, likely far more important advantage: They both came back with undeniably winning and instantly familiar pop songs. If Cyrus and Perry can do the same, all the other stuff -- changing chart trends, their recent commercial downturns, the general difficulties of staying on top -- might not even matter.
With catalogs and fanbases that only a handful of pop artists of their era can match, the same would almost certainly be true for Miley and Katy no matter where they go from here. Even if their days as pop radio core fixtures end up now being behind them, it's never really over for them as stars.

It's so obvious why you commented the way you did.

You before the movie:
"She's gonna flop. Razzies. She can't sell sh!t. ASIB will flop"
After the movie:
"Of course Shallow and ASIB were hits"
You're a joke.

Miley has youth on her side more than Katy. The people who grew up with her during 2008-2013 are getting tired of her because they aren’t teenagers anymore (speaking for myself too) and the new generation of teens and kids have Ariana and Billie so there’s no room for her in what used to be her market audience.
It’s sad that she was never able to expand her fanbase to all ages like many long lasting pop stars were able to do but there’s nobody to blame but herself.

Katy is just not learning her lesson. She has one more chance so far she’s blowing it. Katy stop with this pop corn pop music and give us a BOP!!!
Miley is doing pretty bad on iTunes but dropped the best record out of the two. Perhaps she should have dropped one song first.

Shallow was a hit because of how well-received Gaga's performance in the movie was and how that performance connected to the gp. So Shallow wasn't ONLY a hit because of the movie, it was a mixture of different things including Lady f_cking Gaga which is something you keep ignoring like an idiot.
You damn well know none of the other pop girls would've had a smash like that with a movie if they tried.

“You damn well know none of the other pop girls would've had a smash like that with a movie if they tried.”
I strongly disagree. I think Beyonce, Adele, and Christina could have easily done the same thing. Also think all 3 are better actresses than Gaga as well especially since they have more experience.

First, you have to have a movie done right. Then you need the critics to fall in love with it. Then you need the critics to fall in love with the actors. Then you need the general public to think it's a good movie AND like the acting. Then you need to create a moment in the movie that transcends sooo well that people are buying THE MUSIC. Then you need people to not only use money on that one song but THE WHOLE ALBUM. Then you need to have enough buzz to go into award season. It's not as easy as you make it sound which is why 90 percent of singers have tried and FAILED.
Gaga had all odds against her going into this as evident in all the Razzie posts pre-release, so to just act like it was sooooo easy for her to score a hit because of the movie is just... well... dumb.

I am not making it sound easy which is why i “only” listed 3 extremely talented pop stars who are more talented than Gaga. I’m sure all 3 would have brought something to the table probably more so than Gaga.

No, you're just too stupid to get it. People didn't go to the movies for the names but the movie was a success because of the performances and the music which is what Lady Gaga was responsible for. But you probably STILL don't get that because you're dense
You're acting as if any song that is played in a movie is a gigantic smash lol. Like, you seriously think 365 would've been a smash if it was in a movie?
