Katy, Gaga, Jason Derulo, Nicki, Calvin Harris, Demi, Sia, etc.
It seems like the only people who are successful are The Chainsmokers and random awful rappers from streams. The industry is really dying.
The only artists that have been able to survive this new era is Rihanna, Beyonce, Adele, and Bruno. Everyone else just passes through.

Not surprised Sia's flopping. She seemed like a one trick pony. And Katy definitely lasted longer than anyone would've imagined.
If Gaga would've stayed the route of The Fame/Fame Monster, she'd still be alright, but she ventured too far from what brought her the attention.
I've been listening to Kissing Strangers by DNCE on repeat. It's been a long time since I've done that with a song.
I'd like to give suggestions on what artists need to do to sell, but I'm not sure. Everyone likes "Love on the Brain", but I find that song to be annoying. Rihanna and her team went back and redid her album when the singles released in 2015 weren't selling. Who knows...

Everyone's bored with all these people. They've been sold over and over. Everyone's excited for some new meat.
Also, it sure doesn't help that none of them are remotely creative and capable of genuinely changing up the dynamic. It always goes back to "weird" stuff, or "outrageous" stuff, or "dark" stuff..

Hopefully this is a sign that a new movement in artists and creativity is coming. People are tired and want something new or music with meaningful lyrics and strong melodies (ie. Adele)
But who knows? The industry and how music is marketed, purchased, streamed, downloaded, etc. is different.

Well Nicki is flopping because she's boring and is featured on every pop song ever. She has no hype because she's overexposed. Katy is only flopping in the US, and it's because the song is boring. The last time pop culture was interesting was during Miley's Bangerz era. Hopefully when she comes back things will be exciting again.

I actually think the last time pop culture was exciting was during the late 2000s/early 2010s when Gaga was on top, Single Ladies, Chris Brown beat Rihanna and Kanye interrupted Taylor.

Yeah, Gaga's monster ball run was the last time the industry was even half breathing.

Miley was the last shock in pop culture, that's true. But I'd argue that Beyonce's self-titled release was the true LAST moment in pop culture that was remotely interesting. I'm still waiting on Ariana to have a scandal so she can solidify herself as a part if pop culture as well.

Perfect time for Christina to come back with something powerful and inspiring. She better get it together!
