Disappointing films that couldn't live up to the hype. This is my personal opinion.

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace Looked great from the teaser trailers. Had Jar Jar Binks, the annoying Anakin Skywalker, an overlong race scene, not to mention Ewan McGregor's dodgy ponytail. The videogames based off the film are pretty good though.
Movie
May 19, 1999

Rat Race Amazing cast of some of the top comedy actors, but this loose remake of It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World has none of its charm.
Movie
August 17, 2001

My Big Fat Greek Wedding This film won many awards and was a box office smash. It's a boring derivative comedy, low on jokes and high on stereotypes. Not worth anyone's time.
Movie
April 19, 2002

Scream 2 A confusing and boring sequel. Relies heavily on gore, rather than suspense or good writing.
Movie
December 12, 1997

Super Mario Bros. Weird one this, it was and still is a bad film, but back in the day the videogaming press were hyped for this film.
Movie
May 28, 1993

The Others Favourably reviewed and a box office success. For me it was a cliched and dull ghost story.
Movie
August 10, 2001

My Girl Not sure why there is so much love for this film. A cliched and uninspiring family rom-com.
Movie
November 27, 1991

Amélie A tourist view of Paris, a foreign film for people who don't watch foreign films. The cinematography and set-design are excellent though.
Movie
November 16, 2001

The City of Lost Children Another well reviewed film. I'm not sure who this is aimed at, too violent for kids, too juvenile for adults.
Movie
December 15, 1995

Super Size Me No doubt a great subject matter, but this documentary didn't hold my attention.
Movie
May 7, 2004

JFK This is a good film, but it makes the list as it is overly long and quite boring. Some consider it to be one of the best blockbusters of the 90s. Great performances from Costner and Pesci though.
Movie
December 20, 1991

Waterworld An expensive flop. Prior to its release the press and public were looking forward to this sci-fi dystopian action film. I don't think it's as bad as the reviews made out.
Movie
July 28, 1995

AVP: Alien vs. Predator Mediocre at best. Plenty of source material to use, but all they could come up with is a B-grade action film, low on decent stunts and incredibly annoying space marines. Abysmal.
Movie
August 13, 2004

Alien³ A lot of people dislike this one, but I think it's a decent film. It's included here as it didn't live up to the quality of the first two films.
Movie
May 22, 1992

Street Fighter A dismal film which came out when Street Fighter mania was at its peak. Watch the anime instead.
Movie
December 23, 1994

The Fox and the Hound Very mediocre by Disney standards. This film gained a new lease of life on VHS tape in the 90s. A lot of people told me it was great, guess what? It isn't.
Movie
July 10, 1981

Guest House Paradiso I'm a huge fan of Bottom and all things Rik Mayall. This film is largely unfunny and has an appalling plot which is basically a rehash of Fawlty Towers.
Movie
December 3, 1999

Die Another Day Not only the worst Pierce Brosnan James Bond film, arguably the worst Bond film. Even the Madonna theme song is pants.
Movie
November 22, 2002

TEKKEN: The Motion Picture Disappointing anime. It's let down by a weird plot and ropey animation. Stick to the games instead.
Movie
November 10, 1998

Land of the Dead Follow up to Day of the Dead. A real snoozefest.
Movie
June 24, 2005

Resident Evil A pretty good film, but not a great one. Imagine if it had been directed by George Romero as initially rumoured.
Movie
March 15, 2002

Vera Drake I'm reluctant to include this, but it failed to live up to the hype.
Movie
October 22, 2004

The Rugrats Movie Annoying Rugrats film, the TV series is miles better. Let down by a contrived plot, unfunny jokes about poo and penises to appeal to adults, but they fall flat and that Cartoons songs.
Movie
November 20, 1998

The Aristocrats Stellar cast of some of the finest comedy talent and Eddie Izzard. This documentary isn't as funny as it should be or even as entertaining as it thinks it is. It is worth a watch though.
Movie
July 29, 2005

Shakespeare in Love Clearly had Oscars paid for. Unfunny and uninspiring Rom-com with every bad Shakespeare joke in the book. Only enjoyment is playing spot the actor.
Movie
December 11, 1998
