2017 Drama 7/10 Very good cast - Gerard Butler, William DeFoe, Alfred Molina
The premise has been done before so it's easy to guess what will come next, but with this cast, the journey is welcome. Two head-hunters vie for the top position at a Chicago firm. You'd swear this guy never gave anyone a break, but then he's nearly broken and we see his softer persona.

2019 TV-MA, language including racist terms. Social Issues drama, emotional. 8/10
An interracial couple spend the night at the PD trying to find the whereabouts and condition of their son. Heartbreaking, emotional. Hard to watch, but important truths are handled honestly and bluntly. Hard to choose between 8 or 9 stars, but settled for 8 because I usually reserve higher number for outstanding scenery, new concepts, etc. This is still probably a 9 just for it's bravery in dealing with the subject matter, but if they are as honest as the movie, I would guess that the script basically "wrote itself." A keeper!

The combination of making this another comical zombie apocalypse movie as well as a musical was interesting. Even though I enjoy watching monster type shows, I know most of them are B Class movies and this one certainly was. Watch it if you enjoy such shows or skip it and look for something that's likely to win awards.

2019 6/10 French/Wolof (African - Senegal, the Gambia, Mauritania - since the setting is Dakar, Senegal, it is probably Dakar-Wolof an urban mixture of Wolof, French and Arabic).

Glad that I spent the time to watch this once. Again, seemed that it could have been effectively performed in a fraction of the time taken. It was very interesting to learn more about Senegal and the story was good, not deep, not very mysterious, but good.

Not family friendly. Had some genuinely funny moments. Some of the comedy was more cultural, relating to people unknown to me, but not enough to take anything away. Nothing really special about it unless you like to see different countries, how they dress, eat, talk, etc. I do like foreign entertainment, but still feel this only deserves a 5/10.

Not all the movie was worthy of 9 stars nor was it all memorable. However, Soulaymaan's debate at the end of law school lifted the entire movie out of mediocrity!
Three African brothers living on the outskirts of Paris. The eldest, Demba, is a drug runner, has spent time in jail and no longer lives with his family. Soulaymaan is preparing for his final exam for his law degree and still lives with his mother, Khadijah, and youngest brother Noumouke, who must decide which brother's path he will follow.

Brother's Keeper
1992 Documentary, emotional 7/10 overly long, hard to watch
There were 4 Ward brothers who had never married, never left the farm in central New York where they were born and grew up. Barely knew how to read, didn't seem to fulfill the normal societal expectations of being able to read, write or pursue personal hygiene or a clean living environment. But they were simple men, referred to as the Ward Boys, didn't bother others and mostly kept to themselves, content in their lives together. When William (Bill) died following a period of painful illnesses, the State Police arrested his brother, Delbert, for murder in the second degree based upon an alleged confession. The documentary showed the community support for Delbert's innocence and he was found not guilty, but the event changed their lives and certainly increased their stress. Lyman, one of the brothers, was a sad sight as he had a nervous disposition since childhood. If you felt that they had been coerced and manipulated by law enforcement, it chilled your blood. After watching the documentary, even if you thought perhaps Delbert had performed a "mercy killing" you had to wonder why they would have wasted the money to even take a harmless old man to trial. He probably would not have survived much more than half a year in prison and William's quality of life seemed very painful.

2016 watched on Netflix Indian title: Loktak Lairembee 5/10
Loktak Lake is in Manipur, India. A fishing community used to live there on floating biomass until the government evicted them and destroyed their houses in 2011. When they were forcibly relocated the villagers were destitute. Then, a man finds a gun . . . So much could have been done with this story, but it wasn't. The best part was the location and seeing how hard these people work and how they live on the biomass.
